October is Halloween Month on Hero TV

The Philippines' number one anime channel is putting a different spin on the season for spooks as it brings in both amusement and horror with Hero TV's creepy and suspense-filled new titles this October.

Taking the spotlight this month as the channel's Halloween offerings are "Yugioh! Zexal", "Detective Conan Drama Special: Confrontation of the Men in Black", "Hetalia World", and "Shigofumi Letter from the Departed".

INTERVIEW: Rachel Deering on her Horror Anthology 'In The Dark'

RACHEL DEERING is a writer and letterer best known for her horror projects like , a werewolf story which was successfully funded through Kickstarter and has gone on to receive pretty unanimous acclaim. You may also recognise her name from other comics like Amelia Cole, and the Womanthology project.

and this time is bringing a whole range of creators with her; including CULLEN BUNN, DALIBOR TALAJIC, JAMES TYNION IV, MARGUERITE BENNETT, MARC LAMING, MATTHEW DOW SMITH, PAUL TOBIN, TIM SEELEY, TRADD MOORE, MICHAEL MORECI AND ALISON SAMPSON.

Halloween Decorations

It's already Fall again and it has me thinking about the next holiday- Halloween. My firstborn is already 1 and I feel keenly aware that I need to settle my mind at how I will approach and introduce these holidays to her as a Christian.I view Halloween as a day to play dress up and get some candy from visiting neighbors, but I know some of my Brothers and Sisters that feel convicted that it is demonic. While I feel that this issue is akin to 1 Corinthians 8, I am sensitive to the darker elements of Halloween that decorate many homes and public places.

By going through some decorations online, I made a list of what I think I will allow in my home and what I won't.My thinking behind this is that death, spirits, resurrection, the devil, and sorcery are taken too lightly and by taking it lightly, people tend to let their guard down on the real dangers related to these things.I'm undecided on monsters currently.

Final Thoughts: Summer 2013 Anime Season

A new anime season is upon us, and that means it is time to look back at the season we must leave. And what a season it was. There was some gold this season, some shows that I am really disappointed that we will have to leave, and some stuff I don't mind forgetting about. Next season might be a mystery, but let's first look at the shows that I will be continuing to watch into the fall anime season.

Who Owns The Moon

As every mother of adult children knows: bigger kids, bigger problems. This morning I found myself sending up a prayer of thanks that I am not Korean Kim's Mom. "He was always a little monster," I imagine his Mom confiding. Now he's all grown up, probably wearing built-up shoes with his funky haircut, and there's no end to the mischief he could get up to.

This morning I read an article about property disputes, health and safety nightmares and crimes sure to follow where no man trod before: the subject of space lawyers. Last year a group of private investors (including two Google executives, how lucrative is that?) formed a company called Planetary Resources with the intention of mining asteroids for valuable minerals. Before NASA or anyone starts mining on Bennu (a 1,600 ft. wide asteroid due to pass Earth in 2018 and swing back five years later) or the Moon or any other celestial body, a few issues need addressing, like who has the right to profit from space rocks? And if things go wrong, who is responsible? This is where the lawyers jump in.

DOCTOR WHO: A Companion's Companion

In four short years, Tom Baker had gone from relative nobody, working on a building site, to one of the most popular and recognizable faces on British television, as well as abroad, and had the hit show to prove it. While Season 15, which saw the arrival of producer Graham Williams and script editor Anthony Read, had been an almost across-the-board fight between the old regime and the new, it was still must-watch Saturday viewing and introduced young fans to a tin dog with lasers in his nose.

For Season 16, Williams and Read decided to try something new with their very well-worn commodity. Instead of having six loose-or-completely-disconnected serials, they would make the entire season a quest so that the disparate adventures all gained a sense of cohesion and the reasons for going on them had purpose. They introduced the notion of gathering pieces of an ancient and powerful device that, if in the wrong hands, could spell doom for the whole universe. This device, which became the unofficial-official name for the whole year, was The Key to Time.

SPOILER ALERT! IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FINALE OF BREAKING BAD LEAVE NOW!

Let's get started. If I had to use one word to describe the finale to Vince Gilligan's magnum opus it would be either "neat" or "fitting" or "satisfying". Walt's dead. Lydia's dead. The Neo Nazis and Todd are dead. Skyler's off the hook. Walt Jr's going to get the money. Walt got to have "his" proper goodbye with Skyler and the kids. Maria gets to bury Hank. And of course, Jesse lives. (PERSONALLY AFTER SEEING THE TRAILER TO NEED FOR SPEED, I THINK THAT FILM IS JUST A CONTINUATION OF JESSE'S STORY. I MEAN DID YOU SEE HOW FAST HE WAS FLYING OUT OF THAT COMPOUND PLUS HE STILL HAD SCARS!)

Breaking Bad: five reasons why it is a modern masterpiece

BREAKING BAD HAS A SUBSTANCE TO IT THAT IS AS ADDICTIVE AS THE METHAMPHETAMINE PEDALED BY ITS MORALLY WARPED PROTAGONIST

Throughout its five series run we (the viewers) were indulged in perfect cocktail of drama, black comedy and downright badassary of a quality that, simply, is unparalleled in modern television. Much like The Sopranos before it, Breaking Bad, has been a lesson in both storytelling and breaking (haha) contemporary conventions of serial TV. The Sopranos was the master of manipulating its audience based on what their per-conceived notions of the natural progression of a narrative (notably Dr Melfis non-revenge against her rapist and the shows ambiguous ending) and subverting them which was revolutionary in a time when television predictable and formulaic. Breaking Bad has had to compete in the post-Lost era whereby a continuous narrative and the Hollywood B-teams are littering our households. This has meant that Breaking Bad has had to raise the bar to an unprecedented level and offer something a little a bit different. So instead of doing a bog-standard review or just dissecting everything I love about this series I am going to provide five reasons why I believe it Has been the best show in a decade.

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness Review

If you load up Disgaea D2 without knowing what you're letting yourself in for, you might want to invest in a pair of ear plugs. Or turn the volume down, at least. I say this because one character, Flonne, has a real glass-shattering pitch to her voice. We're talking a squeal tuned to such a piercing degree that it had an acquaintance, who was sharing the room I was playing in, raising their eyes from a book to enquire just "what the hell" I could be playing, and if it was a child's game or not. No, it's not a child's game. It's a silly game, and there's a difference.

Flonne's hair-raising conversational tones sort of exemplify the Disgaea spirit, you see. As obnoxious as the voice is, it works in the context of this campy, self-aware turn-based RPG. Forget Final Fantasy Tactics with all of its high-flung politics and serious-faced philosophising, Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness is a tale about poorly made statues created by penguin monsters and curious trans-gender activities caused by the influence of angel magic.

The Ebb and Tide of Seasons; Uchouten Kazoku and its Cycles

When I was young, I was often moved from location to location due to my dad's studies as he tried to do his second round of residencies in a hope to attain a U.S degree for medicine. We traveled from the frosty winters of New Jersey to the brilliant falls of Pennsylvania to the hot and humid Tampa Bay in Florida before comfortably settling in the heart of Houston, Texas, where I've stayed for the past 15 years of my life.I don't really remember much of my time spent in those previous states - all that's left are the brief hints that old pictures lying in a frame can give me. For the most part, my life has revolved around the general arid climate of Texas; the awfully hot summers, the warm autumns, the chilly winters, and the breezy springs. The climate in Houston doesn't change much, you see. The lowest we get is perhaps 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and even that is rare.

But there are moments where I will walk home from university in the fall, and for a brief moment, I am pulled by the gravity of my own weight and the soft breeze that rustles my oldest memories. Then comes the ache; the inexplicable loneliness and longing for a different weather; for different circumstances. A different life. In these small periods of time I somehow find myself remembering snow and beautiful fall leaves. I don't really remember the actual memory of spending my days in these sorts of weather, but I feel it nonetheless. It's a hard emotion to describe, but the most I can put into words is how strong that tug is, as if I've been to those places before but just can't really remember them. But by the time I blink my eyes and try to think about it, the feeling is gone. It passes, and life moves on, as still and fragmented as it was before.

Who50 #5: "The Seeds of Doom"

WHO50 COUNTS DOWN TO THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF DOCTOR WHO BY REVIEWING MY FAVOURITE EPISODES AND SERIALS OVER THE HISTORY OF THE PROGRAMME, COUNTING DOWN FROM #50 TO #1. TODAY, #5: "THE SEEDS OF DOOM", A 1976 SERIAL WRITTEN BY ROBERT BANKS STEWART AND DIRECTED BY DOUGLAS CAMFIELD.

One of Doctor Who's longest-running reputations is for being very scary for small children. There is an entire mystique built up around children hiding behind their sofa, or peeking out from behind cushions. I'm not sure if I was a particularly unusual child, but despite adoring Doctor Who from the age of three I never found it very scary. Except for "The Seeds of Doom", of course. "The Seeds of Doom" gave me nightmares.

50 Shades of Vino, Smut, and Until My Soul Gets it Right by Karen Wojck Berner

This author has written Twilight fan fiction with some added smut, and somehow made millions of dollars doing it. So now that she's wealthy, she feels the need to sell wine? Why? Greed?

E.L. James has begun selling wines inspired by her trilogy online , according to the Drinks Business. Red Satin and White Silk are made from grapes grown in California and feature labels that read "You. Are. Mine."

Speaking of smut, here's another TV adaptation of a book that has doubtless been created just for the soft-core porn aspect of it and the ratings that Showtime assumes it will get for airing it. Just like the Sookie Stackhouse series, which went from a fun Southern paranormal mystery book to a TV series that was all about inter-species supernatural sex, I am sure they will quickly gloss over any real scientific discoveries of Masters and Johnson and get right to the porn. Sigh.

Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

RUGGERO DEAODATO'S INFAMOUS, PROVOCATIVE AND LEGENDARY CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST (1980) TAKES PRIDE OF PLACE AS PART OF THE .

The 7th of February 1980 may not hold significance for many people, but for Ruggero Deodato it would shape both the rest of his life, and his career as a filmmaker. It was on this day that Cannibal Holocaust was released upon the world, and cinema would never be the same again. The sensation that surrounded it caused delight amongst cinemagoers, particularly aficionados of the grindhouse circuit, and the film became incredibly popular and lucrative; but the powers that be found it abhorrent and convinced that it was representative of actual criminal acts. Deodato would spend the following three years pleading his case in the courts. Originally pulled in on an archaic law which prohibited all scenes of animal cruelty onscreen in Italy (a measure put in place to stem the popularity of bullfighting), he soon found himself being charged with the murders of the actors involved. A contract which the director has drafted for the principal actors all stated that they disappear from the public eye for one year after filming. This was done with the intention of adding to the perceived authenticity of the movie, but with the case becoming more intense, and a prison sentence looking inevitable, Deodato was forced to call in the performers to verify that they were, in fact, still in existence.

The Eagle has Landed! Shiny New Reads

Got the BEST post a few days ago. Just having trouble finding a home for them! More shelves needed!

Most of these are for Horror October, can't wait!

Will 'Agents of SHIELD' be the first fall series to earn full-season pickup?

There are two games that we love to see played when it comes to the fall season and the lineup of shows: Trying to figure out what is going to be the first thing picked up for a full season, and then also trying to figure out what is going to be the first thing to be canceled outright.

When it comes to we have to say at the moment that we could see it picked up as early as this coming week based on what the ratings turn out to be. Its 4.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic (live+same-day viewing) was the biggest debut for any series in years, and with the live+3 data included, that rating has gone up almost to a 6.5 rating. The only show that probably fared better in this metric during premiere week was the monster known as "." While the budget for this show has to be a high, and early pickup here would be something valuable to the franchise so that the writers can already start to ponder over just what they want to do next.

Unreality TV...

"D'you want to come with me..."

With those words Christopher Eccleston started a small revolution in British television, opening the way for a flood of home-grown science fiction and fantasy shows. Prior to Doctor Who's revival in 2005, executives seemed far from convinced that there was an appetite for that sort of thing. Think back to the 1990s and the dearth of deep space or dragons on this side of the Atlantic. The few shows that got commissioned were given meagre budgets, shunted to the outer edge of the schedule and promptly cancelled after one series.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS Volume 64: Stone Temple Pilots

FIRST IMPRESSIONS Volume 64: Stone Temple Pilots - Core "Hello, and welcome to my Blog. Why is it called ?. Good question; It is called that, because I am called Kingcrimsonprog (or Gentlegiantprog) on most websites and forums. (You know, in the way you have to chose a name or "net-handle" when you register?). Back when this Blog was first devised, it was sort of a hub "digest" of all my various internet output, under one easy "roof." So people could then tell that my things were not stolen from elsewhere on the internet, I kept my net-handle in the title. The name of my net-handle was simply chosen because I enjoy the Prog band King Crimson (and Gentle Giant) and is not in fact my real name.

I've been obsessing about music since about the year 2000. Over this time I've bought what must now be , and heard hundreds more through friends, relatives, streaming services and whatever else. I've also watched over a decade's worth of music videos and heard countless individual songs on the radio, free covermounted CDs, websites and whatever else. All that, as well as read years and years worth of music magazines and websites.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995)

Version: Actors: 6/10Plot/script: 6/10Photography/visual style: 6/10Music/score: 6/10OVERALL: 6/10I maintain that I was not exactly a fan of as a child, but I cannot deny that I watched it, and enjoyed it. However, I was old enough to recognize that, although it was entertaining, it was also objectively bad. I am sure I was not the only person laughing at rather than with it, and this was what I hoped for when I tuned in to watch on television recently. It is common knowledge that Power Rangers was 'creatively' adapted from a Japanese kids' action television show called , with scenes inserted of western teenagers replacing the original Japanese dialogue, and martial arts and other action scenes dubbed over. It is probably fair to say that the adaptation was made with little respect toward the original, but then the same goes for the adaptation of from French into English, with reportedly making up his narrations from scratch without having a clue what the French translations were, and that is as loved by its fans now as it was then. The first thing I noticed about the movie is that it does not appear to be using footage from any Japanese version. Unlike the TV show, the main characters are sometimes seen during action scenes with their masks off, or even completely out of costume, so we can see it is the American actors and not Japanese ones. The six rangers themselves are indeed all American, although many of the supporting cast are Australian or British, including villain Ivan Ooze (played by Brit , probably best known as another villain, Dr. RenBelloq in ). Of the rangers, almost all have done very little work outside the Power Rangers franchise, the obvious exception being 'Black Ranger' . Bosch is possibly the biggest English-language voice actor in anime at the moment, with lead roles in major series such as , and . Needless to say, his acting ability has come on in leaps and bounds over the years since Power Rangers. In fairness to the film, I should point out that there are a couple of areas where it genuinely, unironically impressed me. Many of the costumes and props are really quite ornate and impressive, so kudos to , and for the props, and(now of the esteemed ) and for the costumes. It's a real shame that recognition for such sterling work has to come across as damning with faint praise, but it is true that it took such weakness elsewhere for these generally less prominent areas to stand out.

So, for instance, much of the acting is simply awful, and especially by the supporting cast. Some lines are delivered with simply agonizing awkwardness, and there were characters I almost watched through my fingers because I didn't want to face the embarrassment by proxy of whatever they would do next. The fight scenes are a mixed bag. Some of them are pretty good, exciting and dynamic, with an emphasis on style rather than gritty violence. Back-flipping into place is utterly pointless, but it is impressive to watch, and that emphasis on flashy moves has always been a part of what makes movie martial arts good to watch. On the other hand, the underlying key to a good fight scene, I always think, is how well the enemies fight, and these ones are rubbish. Have a look at it the next time you see a fight scene: if it's less good, the villains will spend quite a bit of time standing around, waiting to get hit, and assault the hero one by one. The better choreographed fights generally find ways to hide or evade this unrealism.I'm running out of non-bad things to say, but I found nothing to complain about in the overall direction and cinematography. If there are problems with the film (and there are!), they are not with the framing or shot selection. Director is another of those who have found redemption from previously dicey careers in the TV series , where he has shown a bit more style and vision in his 13 episodes to date, when given something more solid to work with.Which brings us to the real gaping chasm at the heart of the matter: the screenplay. Let's look at the main characters for instance, the rangers. I noticed that their characterization is very limited. Although there seems to have been some effort to make the team ethnically diverse (one black, one asian, one hispanic...), this does not extend to giving them character aspects in any way associated with their origins, as was the case in, for example, , a cartoon series from a similar period. I suppose they were scared of accusations of racism that might arise from racial stereotyping, which is absolutely fair enough, but the alternative is not to leave them without any personality whatsoever.I realized after a while that almost any line that comes out of any character's mouth could have been given to any one of the other rangers, without it changing the scene significantly. Once I noticed this, separating the characters again at all became very difficult. It was especially laughable when the scene came in which they were assigned animal totems based on their personalities: they were either totally interchangeable or, yes, just slightly racist - or both. Why did the Asian guy get that one, when it could have gone to anyone else? Does the caucasian male, already the implied leader of the group, need even more of an ego boost?Another fatal flaw is that characters frequently turn out to know or surmise things we know because we saw them, but they shouldn't because they weren't there. This is a common feature of especially low-quality scripts (see my review of ), betraying the lack of thought which has gone into them. Sometimes, these are presented as clever guesses which are taken as fact thereafter, despite a complete lack of evidence, but other times it just seemed that the screenwriter (shame on you, ) had forgotten that the character(s) was/were not there when that fact was revealed. To be fair, I said originally that I came to the film looking for something bad but fun, and I did find that in places. The film had its fair share of quips of varying quality, including some that are distinctly lame or groanworthy, but groaning at a particularly bad pun is part of what we enjoy about action films. It's not good, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is fun.Similarly, you've got to love a camp villain, and Ivan Ooze is uber-camp in the very finest tradition. The computer-generated special effects are totally incongruous when intercut and superimposed on real photography, but that struck me as great nostalgic fun, and I can't bring myself to treat it as an actual criticism. I have been told by people who were true fans of the show back in the day that they saw the CGI as an unwelcome change from the model-work that was used for giant monster and robot battles beforehand. This is no doubt a consequence of the fact that the movie was not based on the Japanese series, from which all these scenes were taken, and so they had to create them themselves, and using hardware well below the film industry top end at that. The full budget for the film was around $15 million, which didn't stretch far in terms of computer graphics in those days. When I told my friends I had seen this film, some of them said that they felt it was the beginning of the end for the franchise, that the film heralded a split from the Japanese original that weakened it and left it less enjoyable to them as kids. Power Rangers sequel series and spin-offs are still being made to this day, and pretty much continually during the intervening period. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie earned them a lot of money from a legion of young fans, and would appear to still be capturing new hearts. Don't ever think, though, that high production values, or even high standards in any way, have anything to do with that success.

Dexter "Remember The Monsters" Finale Review

Written by Stu Cooper

For years "Dexter" has been one of my favorite television shows. Season 4 of Dexter is really when the show peaked. The chemistry Michael C. Hall had with John Lithgow was unparalleled and hard to top. Unfortunately the show never seemed to pick up that kind of steam for the remainder of the seasons. Season 5 showed promise when Quinn began getting onto Dexter's trail, but by Season 6 it had been completely forgotten. Last season ended on a major note with Dexter's sister Deb helping Dexter by shooting and killing La Guerta. Which resulted in one of the most emotional scenes in the history of the show. At the end of Season 7, prior to La Guerta being killed we found out that she was onto Dexter and had proof of his involvement in the bay harbor butcher killings. When La Guerta was killed, you would think that her ex-husband Angel, the now head of the department, would pick up where she left off right? Wrong. Just like previous serious matters on the show, this issue is simply swept under the rug and by the 3rd episode of Season 8, La Guerta is but a distant memory. That is the main issue I had with this show, and with the lackluster final season that we got.

A Little Late September Pot Roast

Today was my Saturday 1/2 day of work. If it had ended at noon I would have been happier but Saturday work is 9-1 PM. Yes, I can sleep a little later but I was up right on time. I just wanted it over with because Saturday work isn't exactly productive on the phones, more angry people and the lines were busy today, not nearly 'dead' as they often are.

Therefore the laundry load was washed up before I ever opened my line but didn't get to hang out until after 1 PM, nor was I able to deal with Don's bedding, he didn't get up until 8 minutes before I opened my line and the coffee was already old. He was grumpy.

Chapter 2: Assassins (The Hooded Ones)

HELLO READERS! FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY I PRESENT TO YOU THE FIRST FEW CHAPTERS OF MY UP COMING FIRST BOOK IN THE MEKONNEN EPIC SERIES, "THE WARRIOR FROM AKSUM". IT IS STILL BEING PROOF READ AND IMPROVED BUT BECAUSE OF HIGH DEMAND TO READ THE STORY FROM ANXIOUS FANS OF THE ARTWORK AND IDEA I DECIDED TO TREAT THE WORLD WITH WHAT IS COMPLETE SO FAR. BE AWARE THAT THERE MAY BE A FEW SPELLING AND GRAMMATICAL ERRORS BUT I HOPE THIS DOES NOT DISTRACT YOU FROM ENJOYING THE STORY. THANK YOU AND ENJOY! ALL STORY AND ARTWORK COPYRIGHT TO JEROME MATIYAS, 2006 TO 2013 AND BEYOND.CHAPTER 2ASSASSINS (THE HOODED ONES)

The streets are enlivened as crowds of people hustle and bustle in the metropolis of Aksum, in the midst of the vibrant Timketfestival. Commander in Chiefs try to instate some order and control by dispatching their regiments on foot and on horse back to clear the way for the Emperor's procession to march through the streets on the way to The Queen of Sheba's Bath Basin called Mai Shum. Meanwhile a little boy, about five years old, is running and playing in the streets with his friends, when suddenly he accidentally bumps into the leg of a stranger and falls to the dusty ground. The little one springs back up happily with a bright smile on his face and immediately he is polite as his mommy taught him and bows and says, "Aytehazeley, Yikrai-ta Geta!"which is translated to: "I'm Sorry, Excuse me my Lord!" The boy looks up at the stranger's face only to see darkness framed by a white hood. The mysterious hooded stranger turns to looks down at the little one and lets out a menacing hiss as his eyes glowed crimson in the darkness under the hood. Immediately the child is terrified at the sight and runs off with a shriek to find his mother. He finds her not far away talking with three of her young friends and jumps into her arms shouting "Annat, Annat!" which is "Mommy, Mommy!" is Ge'ez. Then he whispers in her ears, "Annat, that man, he hissed at me, and his eyes are red." The mother asks, "Which man?" The boy points in the direction from where he encountered the strange man, but he was gone. She figures her son was just imagining things as little boys sometimes do, thinks nothing of the matter and turns to her friends and says, "My boy Nati thought he saw a monster or something. He will be alright, probably just tired or hungry." Then they casually went on their way, but the little boy was still cowering in his mother's arms, looking over her shoulder at the stranger man with the evil glare, now lurking next to a fruit vendor cart.

They had no idea that there were many sinister men with white hoods pulled over their heads dispersed among the people in the streets and alleyways. But they were organized and grouping into positions that only they knew as planned amongst themselves. And nobody really noticed them looking like every one else, they could even pass for holy monks who dress and cover their heads in similar fashion. Except for the unique patterns in the hems of their hoods and overalls, and that strange symbol, a red lightning shape inside of a black circle. This emblem was embroidered in the front of and below the collar and tattooed on the back of the hands and on their feet.None of the warrior guards notices any thing strange as yet, not even Mekonnen and Afeworqi. Soon the sound of music is heard coming from a distance, and minstrels and psalmists in white can be seem coming from a distance with various instruments playing as they lead the procession for the Timket festival. As music and frankincense fills the air, here they come on their way as priests in beautifully coloured garments and robes with tassels on the fringes, surrounding the one carrying the tabot on his head. Vibrant parasols held up above him and other priests and bishops and also the "Tzadakan" the Righteous Ones of sacred legend, all combined to make this scene look like blossoming flowers in a field. What a beautiful and enchanting sight, especially for the visitors who have never seen it before. Even if it's been seen a dozen times it is still a grand spectacle to behold. Now horses trot with their proud looking commanders and head guards in warrior garb with lion manes on head and dazzling costumes of vibrant colors, swords, shields and lances in hand riding them. The crowd gazes on in awe and reverence of their authority and accomplishments. Now masters in animal training bring out exotic creature on leashes. First some lions sporting large black manes lead the way, then baboons and ostriches. Every thing seems to be going well, Mekonnen reckons. They may even play a game of jousting later tonight. Sit around a camp fire, have a merry feast of fruits and vegetables, with injera and beg(lamb meat) with hot spices on the side and some excellent wine to wash it down. All these thoughts of fun and relaxation fill the young warrior's mind, until one of the hooded ones walk pass Mekonnen, and whose presence gave him a slight ill feeling. Coldness and darkness, and a sense of malice are the energies emanating from the hooded one that gave Mekonnen an uneasy feeling. It sent chills up and down his spine. "Something is not right with that stranger." He thought, "Walking around like that, sneaking and light footed. Why is he looking around like that, Scoping out the area?" "Psst, Afeworqi?" Mekonnen whispers to his cousin, with eyes still fixed on his suspect, "Look, something is not right with that fellow, wait here." "I see him." Afeworqi affirms.

Chapter 6: Dark Semien

Hello readers! For a limited time only I present to you the first few chapters of my up coming first book in the Mekonnen Epic series, "The Warrior From Aksum". It is still being proof read and improved but because of high demand to read the story from anxious fans of the artwork and idea I decided to treat the world with what is complete so far. Be aware that there may be a few spelling and grammatical errors but I hope this does not distract you from enjoying the story. Thank you and Enjoy! Dark Semien

As the sun descends below the horizon and the sky turns orange with streaks of red and purple clouds, horses run wildly down a pathway to the south-west of the Semien mountain range which presents a spectacular view of a dramatic skyline of vast escarpments and deep abysses. Mounted upon these horses are Mekonnen and his warrior companions. Sweaty, hungry, thirsty and terrified, they approach the town settlement of Gultosh seeking shelter and answers. The warriors are now in Beta Israel territory, another reason to be cautious in these parts. They storm through the gate way entrance to Gultosh which would usually be stationed with guards but there were none. They gallop right in but slow down after seeing how desolate and battered the town is, as if Death and Destruction personified went on a rampage. A few dead cats, dogs and chickens are in the streets. Bricks and chips of wood scattered about. Damaged single and two story round houses built of stones with broken doors and holes in straw roofs, some partially, others totally burnt down. A citizens of the town can be seen peeking at the warriors through windows and doors. "This town was recently attacked", is Mekonnen's obvious observation. "Egzio Hoy!,Looks like a herd of elephants stampeded through here!" Gedion exclaims. "This is horrible." Kebi adds, spitting on the ground.Mekonnen raises his right hand, assumes the remaining inhabitants will be looking at them from behind their walls, and announces in Ge'ez, "Citizens of Goltush! We come in peace! We are warriors from Aksum and we seek the same horde that attacked your town. Please, we seek shelter and information about where your attackers went." Gedion then translated Mekonnen's greeting into Agew which is the first language of Beta Israel people, in case they did not understand him in Ge'ez. No response. Only silence. The people are scared and afraid to approach the strangers, thinking the Aksumite warriors could be Hooded Ones returning to ravage them again, or simply disguising themselves as people coming to there aid.

Mountains and Chasms

HOUNDS OF HELLBack on earth, in the dark Semien mountain range, Mekonnen with sword in hand is in hot pursuit after the Hooded One who has Penuel under his arm. Mekonnen manages run fast enough to catch up with them, to the Hooded One's surprise. The Hooded One turns its head to look back to sees Mekonnen's belt glowing in the dark, but none of the other warriors, nor Penuel, can see it. The creature runs and heads for an Amda in the distance, a high rising plateau about 20 cubits high with a steep, almost perpendicular slope and a flat top. Mekonnen senses that is its destination but is determined to catch him before he gets there with the girl. Is it going to climb up that amda with the girl on his back? It seems like a difficult task but with the sort of power and skill those assassins seem to have, anything is possible. The other warriors are still is hot pursuit behind Mekonnen, Sami and Kebi want to fires arrows but don't want to risk hitting Penuel. The same goes for those with spears to throw at him. Suddenly they hear growls and running feet approaching behind them. Gedi, Endal, Nezana and Moti and Achemi, Bezael and Daniab looks back and sees more hooded ones approaching them, but this time they were accompanied by more hideous beasts. Beasts that look like black large hounds as big as leopards with large, savage teeth and red eye glowing with rage. They can only be described has demonic hounds from hell. Now the warriors most decide if they will turn around and face the snarling beasts from hell or keep on running towards the one that kidnapped the girl from Gultosh. "Egziabeher Hoy! There're going to kill us!!" Screams Zegi in terror by the sight and runs off from the group in another direction. An unwise decision that will make him an open target. "Zegi! Come back!! Don't run you fool! We most stick together or they will come after you!" Endal screams at Zegi who kept on running towards the other side of the mountain, as two evil hounds took off after him.

GIHON VILLAGE

Mamoosh! Come on Mamoosh, lets go!" shouts the voice of an energetic young boy calling out to his Semien wolf puppy. "Hey, wait for me Mamoosh! You're a fast little dog aren't you. Ha Ha Ha!" The boy jeers at his pup who is running ahead of him in the grassy moorlands somewhere in the uncharted areas of Abyssinia far away from the jurisdictions of the Aksumite Empire. "Rrreff! Reff, Reff, Reff, Reff!", the cute pup replies as it bounces around through the green savannah, spinning around occasionally with its tongue hanging out his mouth to see if his boy master was still following him. The pup looks like a ball of reddish brown fur with a brushy tail and white highlight around his mouth, under belly and feet. An animal that is very common in this part of Habeshania, endemic to the Semien Mountains and environs, living in the wild in packs hunting mole rats, and other critters for meat, but not usually known to associate themselves with mankind. Yet somehow this boy and his wolf cub have become best of friends. As the two run around in the grasslands playing fetch with each other, Mamoosh the wolf cub darts off towards a nearby river stream, which is part of the famous Abay River. In more ancient times this river was called the Gihon River, because many of the locales believe this is the very same river mentioned in the first of the five books in the Oritwritten by Moses, being one of the four rivers that flowed out of the Garden of Eden. Mamoosh runs off to the banks of the Gihon river and the sight of a tankwacaught in some reed bushes near the bank sparks his attention. He walks up to it with tail wagging speedily from side to side and begins to sniff, sniff at it, walks around it and looks it up and down then sniff, sniff at it some more. Not that Mamoosh has never seen a tankwa boat before but he believes he can smell a person is inside this one. He stands up on two hind legs in an attempt to see who or what is inside but Mamoosh a too little to see over the rim. "Where are you Mamoosh? You think you can hide from me! I will find you!!" the boy declares pretending to be serious. "Rrreff, Reff!!" the puppy barks in response, still sniffing and trying to look into the 7 foot long boat. "I can hear yooooou. I can hear you, and I will FIND YOU!!" "Rrrreefffff, reff, reff, reff, reff." Mamoosh barks more rapidly to let his boy master and play friend find him quicker. The boy reaches the bank of the river and sees his pup sniffing and scratching away at a tankwa. "Hoy! Mamoosh! There you are boy. And what do you have there, my friend? You found a big tankwa? Too little to climb in aren't you. You're not a big boy like ME!" The boy is about 7 years old, of medium dark brown complexion, with a round face and big brown eyes, and a tuff of curly dark brown hair only on the top of his head towards the front. Wearing modest none-descriptive beige and brown clothing, and no shoes or sandals on his feet, runs towards the dog and the boat of interest. Several little frogs jumped off into the bushes and the river to get out of his way. He approaches the boat quickly and is tall enough to peer inside. To his surprise, there is a young man laying in the tankwa, unconscious and cover with tree branches. The boy has no idea if the man is asleep or dead. He gasps, "Gasp!, OOOhh, look Mamoosh, It... Its a man." his voice lowered to a whisper, "You found a man, sleeping in the boat." The boy picks up the wolf pup to show him what he sees. Mamoosh finally sees the man in the boat and growls and sniffs some more. Its a young man who is not moving with bruises on his face a cut on his left eyebrow, and his body cover with leaves and tree branches. But he appears to still be alive, in a deep sleep. It is Mekonnen the warrior from Aksum, who pasted out in the tankwa the night before after running for miles for his life from the Hooded Assassins and the hounds from hell. "I wonder where he is from, Mamoosh. Looks like he is hurt. There is blood and bruises on his face." Says the boy with concern, then with a burst of sudden revelation, He calls out to the man laying there, "Selam, Geta nachow!, Hello My Lord! Are you awake! Are you hurt?"Then there was a low groaning sound coming from the man in the boat as if he was trying to response but could not. "Uhhgnn." "Geta, can you hear me? Are you well?" the boy calls out again, only to get more groans from Mekonnen, who is too ill and tired from the running and bite marks on his arm from the hound that caused some loss of blood and possibly the beginning of an infection. "Uhhgnn." is the only sound Mekonnen can summon again. "He's trying the speak, but can't, Mamoosh. I think he is unwell." "Reff, Reff!" Mamoosh replies in the affirmative.

The Black Cat

FOR the most wild, yet most homely narrative which I am about to pen, I neither expect nor solicit belief. Mad indeed would I be to expect it, in a case where my very senses reject their own evidence. Yet, mad am I not -- and very surely do I not dream. But to-morrow I die, and to-day I would unburthen my soul. My immediate purpose is to place before the world, plainly, succinctly, and without comment, a series of mere household events. In their consequences, these events have terrified -- have tortured -- have destroyed me. Yet I will not attempt to expound them. To me, they have presented little but Horror -- to many they will seem less terrible than barroques. Hereafter, perhaps, some intellect may be found which will reduce my to the common-place -- some intellect more calm, more logical, and far less excitable than my own, which will perceive, in the circumstances I detail with awe, nothing more than an ordinary succession of very natural causes and effects.

From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions. I was especially fond of animals, and was indulged by my parents with a great variety of pets. With these I spent most of my time, and never was so happy as when feeding and caressing them. This peculiarity of character grew with my growth, and, in my manhood, I derived from it one of my principal sources of pleasure. To those who have cherished an affection for a faithful and dog, I need hardly be at the trouble of explaining the nature or the intensity of the gratification thus derivable. There is something in the unselfish and self-sacrificing love of a brute, which goes directly to the heart of him who has had frequent occasion to test the paltry friendship and fidelity of mere Man.

Swiss Family Robinson

Sometimes I liken this adventure to the Robinson Family- and yesterday was no different. We were walking home from a neighboring village- it was only like 30 minutes from our village and there we saw it . a water hole.Because we are just getting out of monsoon- this was the first time that the "pool" wasn't half jacuzzi half class five water falls- it was perfection. So we jumped in and swam around. It was amazing.I felt a little bad because it was only Lin and Alisha . Caro and Vin were back at the houseoh well, you snooze you lose. I didn't even have to worry about River Monsters because it is really just a huge stream from a mountain run off-- no fish, no sharks, nothing that Brooke said would kill me.

'Cloudy With a Chance' of Filmmaking Advice from Directors Kris Pearn and Cody Cameron

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 is one of those rare sequels that is just as good as, if not better, than the original. And when you're talking about following up an animated film written and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, that's meant to be very high praise indeed. Cloudy 2 will certainly appeal to children, but this is one of those animated films that have tons of jokes thrown in for adults as well. Plus you have Neil Patrick Harris back as single-word blurting monkey Steve, with an expanded vocabulary. What's not to love? Our own is obsessed with the movie, and you can read her predictions for favorite Foodimals from the film .

We sat down with co-directors Kris Pearn and Cody Cameron to talk about the film, and working in modern-day animation amidst computers that seem poised to take over the world. Once Skynet realizes it can just replace everyone in our lives with animated duplicates, we're all doomed. Read on for the full interview!

Joel's NFL Week 4 picks

As we enter the finish line for the first quarter of the season, I've come to a few conclusions that I think will carry on throughout the rest of the regular season:

- THE NFC EAST IS DEPRESSING. Watching the Cowboys pull away from the pack is like watching a Pinto drive away with "JUST MARRIED" spray-painted on the back windshield with cans being dragged on strings behind it. Only, the Pinto is the Cowboys and the cans are the Redskins, Giants, and Eagles. Man oh man. Remember when Chip Kelly's offense took the league by storm in Week 1 and everyone thought they'd dominate? That's alright though. Most people thought Tim Tebow was a competent NFL quarterback, too. Sometimes we all need a mulligan.

One To Watch October Crime Author of the Month

1. How did you get started writing

I've been scribbling stories as far back as I remember. I recall sitting in the living room of the flat in Springburn, must be in the mid-sixties, writing a story called 'Who Killed Cock Robin?' which was a detective story about the murder of a TV star. I've written plays, comedy, radio shows. Also two wrote and produced two crime dramas for a Glasgow cable TV company, one of which I directed. The other won a Royal Television society Scottish Centre award for best drama. By then I was channelling the bug it into journalism and that led to writing about true crime and now, fiction.

Icons of the Overlooked #10: Adrienne Barbeau

Adrienne Barbeau came from a stage background having appeared in Grease and some more... um...provocative productions. These other productions, plus some modelling, firmly cemented her as a sex symbol as she moved into film in the late seventies and early eighties. Yet Barbeau was less interested in the superficial and sought out roles that gave her more to do then just wear low neck lines and run. That is not to say she didn't have a lot of those roles, but even when she did she gave them a depth often not there in the writing.

Genre films have always struggled to balance toughness with femininity. Often women were hired because of traditional notions of beauty and any toughness was largely unconvincing, while in the nineties women could only seem to be seen as tough if they essentially de-feminised themselves. Barbeau, however, perfectly balanced the two elements. She is someone who wasn't in the least bit masculine, yet there was never a doubt she was in total command of her performance and persona. She could look gorgeous while shooting a look that would convince you she'd be able to kick your arse if she wanted to. It was this dichotomy that defined her career.

In Swamp Thing (Wes Craven, 1982) her character finds herself assigned to a research project deep in an inhospitable swamp. It is made very clear from the start it is a tough job that requires work inconditions that even burly men can't tolerate. When the facility is attacked by a rival scientist and his mercenaries she manages to hold her own in a way her none of the male security are able to. She relieves one attacker of his assault rifle, uses it to blow another into the swamp and finally floors a third, straddles him and punches him in the face in way that would please an MMA fighter. In fact whenever she is captured, which is frequently, she fights her way out only to be "rescued" by Swamp Thing once she is well on her way.

Episode 3: Experience

It was now Sunday, a few days after I made the contract with my very own Soul Aura. An entire week of training with my friend Aiko. It was really unbelievable how this all happened within a single week. In the beginning before I came to Japan, I just wanted to stay at home to be a nobody. I wanted to be someone that grew up, got a job, and a family to finish it all off.

Just like anyone else but nowI feel like I wouldn't be satisfied living like that. Now I've entered the world of magic. A place where I can be someone; where I can make friends and be of use.

We were lucky enough to be in Tokyo during the September Grand Sumo Tournament. When you hear the word "Sumo" I know the mental image of large men in colorful diapers come to mind, and you will be totally correct! And it's AWESOME. However, what I found most interesting is all the ritual and tradition involved in the sport.

Top 5 Superhero Cartoons of Today

Y'know, I think this piece won't get as many views as some of the others because I'm one of the few people I know who puts this much thought into this sort of thing. And to that I say: Whatever. I write this blog for me more than anyone else. Anyway...

We live in a Golden Age of superhero media, where fans and comic writers are running the adaptations of their favorite medias. Of course, writing isn't a surefire process, and some shows will inevitably be better than others. I'm here to tell you which one goes where. Here's the Top 5 Superhero Cartoons of Today (I'm not doing "of all time" because you don't need another nerd on the internet telling you Batman: The Animated Series was awesome). Enjoy:

What's Next On My List? Alice In Wonderland

I know what controversy surrounds TIM BURTON, ever since he started to cast the same two people in every movie of his. But honestly I don't mind, because they are talented actors who always add something new to the material that is given to them. I also don't care about the peculiar music that is always credited to one person. What I do care about is the movies one by one and although I highly appreciate BURTON's vision and his works, sometimes I feel that he is under pressure by Hollywood to produce more, (does the ring a bell?) while he obviously works better when he takes his time (like everyone else really!). That said, I wanted to talk about this movie as I have seen it for the first time only a couple of days ago:

Alice, our young lead is tormented by nightmares. She shares the same nightmare for years to come, until one day it all seems to become a reality when she is supposed to get engaged. She runs away and follows a rabbit with a blue coat down his hole, only to find herself in a place called Underworld.

Kick-ass Maidens Get Medieval as Image Dominates the Week in Comics

If you are a comic book fan, especially of Image Comics, you should rejoice in the plentiful bounty of quality stories released this week. Up and down the Image line could be found can't miss books like Jupiter's Legacy #3, East of West #6, Fatale #17, Revival #14, and of course the award-winning Saga #14. It's no wonder that they've become one of the most successful and respected independent comic book publishers in the industry. This week they also introduced two new titles. Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky is a sexy, funny, and thoroughly original mature book that easily could have been this week's pick. A SEX COMEDY FOR COMICS Suzie's a normal girl with an extraordinary ability: when she has sex, she stops time. One night she meets John...who has the same gift. And so they do what any other sex-having, time-stopping, couple would do: they rob banks. In the vein of THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN and BRIDESMAIDS, Image Comics invites you to come along with MATT FRACTION (Hawkeye, SATELLITE SAM) and CHIP ZDARSKY(Prison Funnies, Monster Cops) for the series that puts the "comic" back in "comics" and the "sexy" back in "sex crimes." It was the other newcomer, the one that wasn't released with the same marketing fanfare of Criminals, that really surprised and entertained. Rat Queens by Kurtis J. Wiebe and Roc Upchurch is a raucous fantasy adventure with a cadre of sassy maidens ready to throw punches in a bar brawl or kill goblins. Imagine if Aubrey Plaza had been Xena, Warrior Princess, then you'd understand the vibe of the book. It's got snarky humor as well as bloody sword-wielding action. It is entertaining from start to finish. Wiebe's writing has more modern sensibilities than you usually find in medieval fantasy books because there's no pretentious flowery jargon. Upchurch's pencils convey so much with just a look on a character's face that they speak for themselves. It's a beautifully rendered book with characters that you want to hang around with so much more. However, we must wait until next month. Pick it up now!

PODCAST ROUNDUP, SEP 27, 2013 -- FILM, Part 1 of 3

And we're baaaaack! The roundup returns, starting with some of my favourite film-related podcasts. Since I've been retooling the site, I've missed the roundups for the past few weeks, so I'm playing catch-up here; as a result, some shows have listings with two or three back-episodes! But, hey, that just means there's more podcast gold for you to dig into

Today's roundup includes a triple-shot of Phantom Erik at 100 Years of Horror, as he takes you back to the swinging sixties for some great macabre movie fare; a double-shot of Cinema Beef Podcast, including an extended show where Gary Hill and Jamie Jenkins scope out the entire Exorcist franchise (Jamie also interviews the actress who played the demon Pazuzu in the 1973 film); a great episode of Cadaver Lab Indies where Mike Cadaver and Johnny Krueg invite you to a Murder Party; an awesome Corpse Cast episode where Mike C. and Shane Diablo take you on a ride to hell with Nicolas Cage; a review show where Creep Creepersin expresses deep sadness over Rob Zombie's Lords of Salem, and a whole lot m- oh, wait. No, that's it.

Flasher Fiction: Bruise

And here's another. Might as well get them all up here for people to seenot a bad haul for one day. Right? Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this one.

Going Solo in the City of Gentle People, Dumaguete

After a short hike up Mt. Kanlaon, my hiking bud Arisse and I went on separate adventures. From Canlaon City, Arisse traveled back to Bacolod for a quick food trip before catching an evening flight to Manila, while I rode a 4-hour van down Dumaguete City where I spent 3 days.

The Journey

I'm doing the Ironman World Champs in Hawaii in a couple weeks. I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, as tends to happen before big events in my life, and in that thinking, I figured I ought to write a little bit about my triathlon journey, the pinnacle of which (so far) will be in Kona.

Well.That looks fun.

Wicked City Review

Today marks number 3. We've got only two reviews left in this marathon, and this train of reviews is finally pulling into the station. The review I have for today is a bit of a schlock title, but one that has a bit of a cult following, even to this day. It's cheesy, it's stupid, but there's a bit of a dark charm to it. With that said, let's look at the underground title known as Wicked City, and see if it's as bad as everyone says it is.

STORY/SETUP

Henry Hugglemonster's Second Season Greenlit

Disney EMEA has recently announced that production for a second season of the hit preschool series Henry Hugglemonster has officially begun. The series will be produced by Dublin's Brown Bag Films under the guidance of Disney's London-based production hub.

More Casting News for Syfy's Dominion

NEW YORK - September 24, 2013 - Syfy announces additional casting for its upcoming supernatural drama pilot, Dominion with the signings of Anthony Stewart Head, Roxanne McKee, Luke Allen-Gale and guest star Shivani Ghai. Produced by Universal Cable Productions, the pilot is set to begin shooting this month in Cape Town, South Africa.

Based on characters from the hit theatrical film Legion (2010), Dominion is an epic supernatural action drama set 25 years after the events of the movie and picking up in the aftermath of a catastrophic war between an army of angels and mankind that has transformed the world. The series follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he's the unlikely savior of humanity, set against a backdrop of the ultimate celestial battle as it touches down on earth.

Fantasista Doll

Uzume Ono is a young student and former champion of a trading card game competition. She is trusted with a special device containing six powerful Fantasista Dolls. These dolls are sentient virtual beings who reside in cards which are now controlled by their new master, Uzume.

Taking an initial look at a series such as Fantasista Doll, one may simply place it within the realm of yet another franchise series that is more popular for the elements surrounding it rather than the animated series itself. With a rather ambitious scope that stems from a manga series and continues through multiple novels and even a smartphone game, the animated adaptation also includes the acclaimed director and writer Goro Taniguchi of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (2006) fame taking creative producing credit here with Hisashi Saito taking the helm. While the high expectations for the animated series was established well before it came out, it is safe to say that Fantasista Doll is a series that succeeds in many respects.

The night before

It was a beautiful night. We had all gathered to celebrate my cousin's birthday in Kohati. The party went on till late night and at around 12:30 am, on my way back home, I marvelled at how peaceful Kohati bazaar looked. The city was sleeping, the shutters were down and with minimum traffic on the roads, the walk back home seemed so lovely knowing that the core of Peshawar city was so beautifully serene.

Hades

THIS IS A REQUESTED POST, SOMEONE REQUESTED THAT I WRITE A POST ON HADES SO HERE IT IS. HADES WAS THE ANCIENT GREEK GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD. EVENTUALLY, THE GOD'S NAME CAME TO DESIGNATE THE ABODE OF THE DEAD. IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY, HADES IS THE OLDEST MALE CHILD OF CRONUS AND RHEA CONSIDERING THE ORDER OF BIRTH FROM THE MOTHER, OR THE YOUNGEST, CONSIDERING THE REGULATION BY THE FATHER. THE LATTER VIEW IS ATTESTED IN POSEIDON'S SPEECH IN THE ILIAD. ACCORDING TO MYTH, HE AND HIS BROTHERS ZEUS AND POSEIDON DEFEATED THE TITANS AND CLAIMED RULERSHIP OVER THE COSMOS, RULING THE UNDERWORLD, AIR, AND SEA, RESPECTIVELY; THE SOLID EARTH, LONG THE PROVINCE OF GAIA, WAS AVAILABLE TO ALL THREE CONCURRENTLY. LATER THE GREEKS STARTED REFERRING TO THE GOD AS PLOUTON WHICH THE ROMANS LATINIZED AS PLUTO. THE ROMANS WOULD ASSOCIATE HADES/PLUTO WITH THEIR OWN CHTHONIC GODS, DIS PATER AND ORCUS. THE CORRESPONDING ETRUSCAN GOD WAS AITA. HE IS OFTEN PICTURED WITH THE THREE-HEADED DOG CERBERUS. IN THE LATER MYTHOLOGICAL TRADITION, THOUGH NOT IN ANTIQUITY, HE IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE HELM OF DARKNESS AND THE BIDENT. THE TERM HADES IN CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY ( AND IN NEW TESTAMENT GREEK) IS PARALLEL TO HEWBREW SHEOL ("GRAVE DIRT-PIT") AND REFERS TO THE ABODE OF THE DEAD. THE CHRISTIAN CONCEPT OF HELL IS MORE AKIN TO AND COMMUNICATED BY THE GREEK CONCEPT OF TARTARUS A DEEP, GLOOMY PART OF HADES USED AS A DUNGEON OR TORMENT AND SUFFERING. IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY, HADES (THE "UNSEEN") THE GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD, WAS A SON OF THE TITANS CRONUS AND RHEA. HE HAD THREE SISTERS, DEMETER, HESTIA, AND HERA, AS WELL AS TWO BROTHERS, ZEUS, THE YOUNGEST OF THE THREE, AND POSEIDON, COLLECTIVELY COMPRISING THE ORIGINAL SIX OLYMPIAN GODS. UPON REACHING ADULTHOOD, ZEUS MANAGED TO FORCE HIS FATHER TO DISGORGE HIS SIBLINGS. AFTER THEIR RELEASE THE SIX YOUNGER GODS, ALONG WITH ALLIES THEY MANGED TO GATHER, CHALLENGED THE ELDER GODS FOR POWER IN THE TITANOMACHY, A DIVINE WAR. THE WAR LASTEDFOR TEN YEARS AND ENDED WITH THE VICTORY OF THE YOUNGER GODS. FOLLOWING THEIR VICTORY ACCORDING TO A SINGLE FAMOUS PASSAGE IN THE ILIAD (XV 187-93) HADES AND HIS TWO BROTHERS, POSEIDON AND ZEUS DREW LOTS FOR REALMS TO RULE: ZEUS GOT THE SKY, POSEIDON GOT THE SEAS, AND HADES RECEIVED THE UNDERWORLD, THE UNSEEN REALM TO WHICH THE SOULS OF THE DEAD GO UPON LEAVING THE WORLD AS WELL AS ANT AND ALL THINGS BENEATH THE EARTH. HADES OBTAINED HIS WIFE AND QUEEN PERSEPHONE, THROUGH TRICKERY AND VIOLENT ABDUCTION. THE MYTH, PARTICULARLY AS REPRESENTED IN THE HOMERIC HYMN TO DEMETER, CONNECTED THE ELEUSFINIAN MYSTERIES WITH THE OLYMPIAN PANTHEON HELIOS TOLD THE GRIEVING DEMETER THAT HADES WAS NOT UNWORTHY AS A CONSORT FOR PERSEPHONE: "AIDONEUS, THE RULER OF MANY, IS NO UNFITTING AMONG THE DEATHLESS GODS FOR YOUR CHILD, BEING YOUR OWN BROTHER AND BORN OF THE SAME STOCK: ALSO, FOR HONOR, HE HAS THAT THIRD SHARE WHICH HE RECEIVED WHEN DIVISION WAS MADE AT THE FIRST, AND IS APPOINTED LORD OF THOSE AMONG WHOM HE DWELLS." -HOMERIC HYMN TO DEMETER. DESPITE MODERN CONNOTATIONS OF DEATH AS EVIL, HADES WAS ACTUALLY MORE ALTRUISTICALLY INCLINED IN MYTHOLOGY. HADES WAS OFTEN PORTRAYED AS PASSIVE RATHER THAN EVIL; HIS ROLE WAS OFTEN MAINTAINING RELATIVE BALANCE. HADES RULED THE DEAD, ASSISTED BY OTHERS OVER WHOM HE HAD COMPLETE AUTHORITY. HE STRICTLY FORBADE HIS SUBJECTS TO LEAVE HIS DOMAIN AND WOULD BECOME QUITE ENRAGED WHEN ANYONE TRIED TO LEAVE, OR IF SOMEONE TRIED TO STEAL THE SOULS FROM HIS REALM. HIS WRATH WAS EQUALLY TERRIBLE FOR ANYONE WHO TRIED TO CHEAT DEATH OR OTHERWISE CROSSED HIM, AS SISYPHUS AND PIRITHOUS FOUND OUT THEIR SORROW. BESIDES HERACLES, THE ONLY OTHER LIVING PEOPLE WHO VENTURED TO THE UNDERWORLD WERE ALL HEROES: ODYSSEUS, AENEAS (ACCOMPANIED BY THE SIBYL) ORPHEUS, THESEUS WITH PIRITHOUS, AND IN A LATE ROMANCE, PSYCHE, NONE OF THEM WERE PLEASED WITH WHAT THEY WITNESSED IN THE REALM OF THE DEAD. IN PARTICULAR, THE GREEK WAR HERO ACHILLIES, WHOM ODYSSEUS CONJURED WITH A BLOOD LIBATION, SAID: "O SHINING ODYSSEUS, NEVER TRY TO CONSOLE ME FOR DYING. I WOULD RATHER FOLLOW THE PLOW AS THRALL TO ANOTHER MAN, ONE WITH NO LAND ALLOTTED TO HIM AND NOT MUCH TO LIVE ON, THAN BE A KING OVER ALL THE PERISHED DEAD." -ACHILLES' SOUL TO ODYSSEUS. HOMER, ODYSSEY' 11.488-491. HADES, GOD OF THE DEAD, WAS A FEARSOME FIGURE THOSE STILL LIVING; IN NO HURRY TO MEET HIM, THEY WERE RELUCTANT TO SWEAR OATHS IN HIS NAME, AND AVERTED THEIR FACES WHEN SACRIFICING TO HIM. SINCE TO MANY, SIMPLY TO SAY THE WORD "HADES" WAS FRIGHTENING, EUPHEMISMS ERE PRESSED INTO USE. SINCE PERCIOUS MINERALS COME FROM UNDER THE EARTH (I.E. THE "UNDERWORLD" RULED BY HADES) HE WAS CONSIDERED TO HAVE CONTROL OF THESE AS WELL, AND WAS REFERRED TO AS (PLOUTIN, RELATED TO "WEALTH") HENCE THE ROMAN NAME PLUTO. SOPHOCLES EXPLAINED REFERRING TO HADES AS "THE RICH ONE" WITH THESE WORDS: "THE GLOOMY HADES ENRICHES HIMSELF WITH OUR SIGHS AND OUR TEARS." IN ADDITION, HE WAS CALLED CLYMENUS ("NOTORIOUS") POLYDEMGMON ("WHO RECEIVES MANY") AND PERHAPS EUBULEUS ("GOOD COUNSEL" OR "WELL-INTENTIONED") ALL OF THEM EUPHEMISMS FOR A NAME THAT WAS UNSAFE TO PRONOUNCE, WHICH EVOLVED IN EPITHETS. ALTHOUGH HE WAS AN OLYMPIAN, HE SPENT MOST OF THE TIME IN HIS DARK REALM. FORMIDABLE IN BATTLE, HE PROVED HIS FEROCITY IN THE FAMOUS TITANOMACHY, THE BATTLE OF THE OLYMPIANS VERSUS THE TITANS, WHICH ESTABLISHED THE RULE OF ZEUS. FEARED AND LOATHED, HADES EMBODIES THE INEXORABLE FINALITY OF DEATH: "WHY DO WE LOATHE HADES MORE THAN ANY GOD, IF NOT BECAUSE HE IS SO ADAMANTINE AND UNYIELDING?" THE RHETORICAL QUESTION IS AGAMEMNON'S. HE WAS NOT, HOWEVER, AN EVIL GOD, FOR ALTHOUGH HE WAS STERN, CRUEL, AND UNPITYING, HE WAS STILL JUST. HADES RULED THE UNDERWORLD, AND WAS THEREFORE MOST OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH DEATH AND FEARED BY MEN, BUT HE WAS NOT DEATH ITSELF- THE ACTUAL EMBODIMENT OF DEATH WAS THANTOS. WHEN THE GREEKS PROPITIATED HADES, THEY BANGED THEIR HANDS ON THE GROUND TO BE SURE HE WOULD HEAR THEM, BLACK ANIMALS, SUCH AS SHEEP, WERE SACRIFICED TO HIM, AND THE VERY VEHEMENCE OF THE REJECTION OF HUMAN SACRIFICE HAD TO AVERT HIS FACE. ONE ANCIENT SOURCE SAYS THAT HE POSSESSED THE CAP OF INVISIBILITY. HIS CHARIOT, DRAWN BY FOUR BLACK HORSES, MADE FOR A FEARSOME AND IMPRESSIVE SIGHT. HIS OTHER ORDINARY ATTRIBUTES WERE THE NARCISSUS AND CYPRESS PANTS, THE KEY OF HADES AND CERBERUS, THE THREE-HEADED DOG, HE SAT ON AN EBONY THRONE. THE PHILOSOPHER HERACLITUS, UNIFYING OPPOSITESDECLARED THAT HADES AND DIONYSUS, THE VERY ESSENCE OF INDESTRUCTIBLE LIFE OR,ARE THE SAME GOD. AMONGST OTHER EVIDENCE KARL KERENYI NOTES THAT THE GRIEVING GODDESS DEMETER REFUSED TO DRINK WINE, WHICH IS THE GIFT OF DIONYSUS, AFTER PERSEPHONE;S ABDUCTION, BECAUSE OF THIS ASSOCIATION, AND SUGGESTS THAT HADES MAY IN FACT HAVE BEEN A 'COVER NAME' FOR THE UNDERWORLD DIONYSUS. FURTHERMORE HE SUGGEST THAT THIS DUAL IDENTITY MAY HAVE BEEN FAMILIAR TO THOSE WHO CAME INTO CONTACT WITH THE MYSTERIES. ONE OF THE EPITHETS OF DIONYSUS WAS "CHTHONIOS" MEANING "THE SUBTERRANEAN." HADES IS RARELY REPRESENTED IN CLASSICAL ARTS, SAVE IN DEPICTION OF THE RAPE OF PERSEPHONE. THE CONSORT OF HADES WAS PERSEPHONE, REPRESENTED BY THE GREEKS AS THE BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER OF DEMETER. PERSEPHONE DID NOT SUBMIT TO HADES WILLINGLY, BUT WAS ABDUCTED BY HIM WHILE PICKING FLOWERS IN THE FIELDS OF NYSA. IN PROTEST OF HIS ACT, DEMETER CAST A CURSE ON THE LAND AND THERE WAS A GREAT FAMINE; THOUGH, ONE BY ONE, THE GODS CAME TO REQUEST SHE LIFT IT, LEST MANKIND PERISH, SHE ASSERTED THAT THE EARTH WOULD REMAIN BARREN UNTIL SHE SAW HER DAUGHTER AGAIN. FINALLY, ZEUS INTERVENED; VIA HERMES, HE REQUESTED THAT HADES RETURN PERSEPHONE. HADES COMPLIED, "BUT HE ON HIS PART SECRETLY GAVE HER SWEET POMEGRANATE SEED TO EAT, TAKING CARE DEMETER QUESTIONED PERSEPHONE ON HER RETURN TO LIGHT AND AIR: "... BUT IF YOU HAVE TASTED FOOD, YOU MUST GO BACK AGAIN BENEATH THE SECRET PLACES OF THE EARTH, THERE TO DWELL A THIRD PART OF THE SEASONS EVERY YEAR: YET FOR THE TWO PARTS YOU SHALL BE WITH ME AND OTHER DEATHLESS GODS." THIS BOUND HER TO HADES AND THE UNDERWORLD, MUCH TO THE DISMAY OF DEMETER. IT IS NOT CLEAR WHETHER PERSEPHONE WAS ACCOMPLICE TO THE PLOY. ZEUS PROPOSED A COMPROMISE TO WHICH ALL PARTIES AGREED OF THE YEAR, PERSEPHONE WOULD SPEND ONE THIRD WITH HER HUSBAND. ITS DURING THIS TIME THAT WINTER CASTS ON THE EARTH "AN ASPECT OF SADNESS AND MOURNING." THESEUS AND PIRITHOUS PLEDGED TO KIDNAP AND MARRY DAUGHTERS OF ZEUS. THESEUS CHOSE HELEN AND TOGETHER THEY KIDNAPPED HER AND DECIDED TO HOLD ONTO TO HER UNTIL SHE WAS OLD ENOUGH TO MARRY. PIRITHOUS, CHOSE PERSEPHONE. THEY LEFT HELEN WITH THESEUS' MOTHER, AETHRA AND TRAVELED TO THE UNDERWORLD. HADES KNEW THEIR PLAN TO CAPTURE HIS WIFE, SO HE PRETENDED TO OFFER THEM HOSPITALITY AND SET A FEAST; AS SOON AS THE PAIRS SAT DOWN, SNAKES COILED AROUND THEIR FEET AND HELD THEM THERE. THESEUS WAS EVENTUALLY RESCUED BY HERACLES BUT PIRITHOUS REMAINED TRAPPED AS PUNISHMENT FOR DARING TO SEEK THE WIFE OF A GOOD FOR HIS OWN. HERACLES' FINAL LABOUR WAS TO CAPTURE CERBERUS. FIRST, HERACLES WENT TO ELEUSIS TO BE INITIATED INTO THE ELECSINIAN MYSTERIES. HE DID THIS TO ABSOLVE HIMSELF OF GUILT FOR KILLING THE CENTAURS AND TO LEARN HOW TO ENTER AND EXIT THE UNDERWORLD ALIVE. HE FOUND THE ENTRANCE TO THE UNDERWORLD AT TAENARUM, ATHENA AND HERMES HELPED HIM THROUGH AND BACK FROM HADES. HERACLES ASKED HADES FOR PERMISSION TO TAKE CERBERUS. HADES AGREED AS LONG AS HERACLES DIDN'T HARM CERBERUS. WHEN HERACLES DRAGGED THE DOG OUT OF HADES, HE PASSED THROUGH THE CAVERN ACHERUSIA. ACCORDING TO OVID, HADES PURSUED AND WOULD HAVE WON THE NYMPH MINTHE, ASSOCIATED WITH THE RIVER COCYTUS, HAD NOT PERSEPHONE TURNED MINTHE INTO THE PLANT CALLED MINT. IN OLDER GREEK MYTHS, THE REALM OF HADES IS THE MISTY AND GLOOMY ABODE OF THE DEAD (ALSO CALLED EREVUS) WERE ALL MORTALS GO. LATER GREEK PHILOSOPHY INTRODUCED THE IDEA THAT ALL MORTALS ARE JUDGED AFTER DEATH AND ARE EITHER REWARDED OR CURSED. VERY FEW MORTALS COULD LEAVE HIS REALM ONCE THEY ENTERED: THE EXCEPTIONS, HERACLES, THESEUS, ARE HEROIC. EVEN ODYSSEUS IN HIS NEKYIA (ODYSSEY XI) CALLS UP THE SPIRITS OF THE DEPARTED, RATHER THAN DESCEND TO THEM. THERE WERE SEVERAL SECTIONS OF THE REALM OF HADES, INCLUDING ELYSIUM, THE ASPHODEL MEADOWS, AND TARTARUS, GREEK MYTHOGRATHERS WERE NOT PERFECTLY CONSISTENT ABOUT THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE AFTERLIFE. A CONTRASTING MYTH OF THE AFTERLIFE CONCERNS THE GARDEN OF THE HESPERIDES, OFTEN IDENTIFIED WITH THE ISLES OF THE BLESSED, WHERE THE BLESSED HEROES MAY DWELL. IN ROMAN MYTHOLOGY, THE ENTRANCE TO THE UNDERWORLD LOCATED AT AVERNUS, A CRATER NEAR CUMAE, WAS THE ROUTE AENEAS USED TO DESCEND TO THE REALM OF THE DEAD. BY SYNECDOCHE "AVERNUS" COULD BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE UNDERWORLD AS A WHOLE. THE DI INFERI WERE A COLLECTIVE OF UNDERWORLD DIVINITIES. FOR HELLENES, THE DECEASED ENTERED THE UNDERWORLD BY CROSSING THE ACHERON, FERRIED ACROSS BY CHARON (KAIR'-ON) WHO CHARGED AN OBOLUS A SMALL COIN PASSAGE PLACED IN THE MOUTH OF THE DECEASED BY PIOUS RELATIVES. PAUPERS AND THE FRIENDLESS GATHERED FOR A HUNDRED YEARS ON THE NEAR SHORE ACCORDING TO BOOK VI OF VEGIL'S AENEID. GREEKS OFFERED PROPITLATORY LIBATIONS TO PREVENT THE DECEASED FROM RETURNING TO THE UPPER WORLD TO "HAUNT' THOSE WHO HAD NOT GIVEN THEM A PROPER BURIAL. THE FAR SIDE OF THE RIVER WAS GUARDED BY CERBERUS, THE THREE-HEADED DOG DEFEATED BY HERACLES (ROMAN HERCULES). PASSING BEYOND CERBERUS, THE SHADES OF THE DEPARTED ENTERED THE LAND OF THE DEAD TO BE JUDGED. THE FIVER RIVERS OF THE REALM OF HADES, AND THEIR SYMBOLIC MEANINGS, ARE ACHERON (THE RIVER OF SORROW, OR WOE) COCYTUS (LAMENTATION) PHLEGETHON (FIRE) LETHE (OBLIVION) AND STYX (HATE) THE RIVER UPON WHICH EVEN GODS WHORE AND IN WHICH ACHILLES WAS DIPPED TO RENDER HIM INVINCIBLE. THE STYX FORMS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN THE UPPER AND LOWER WORLDS. SEE ALSO ERIDANOS. THE FIRST REGION OF HADES COMPRISES THE FIELDS OF ASPHODEL, DESCRIBED IN ODYSSEY XI, WHERE THE SHADES OF HEROES WANDER DESPONDENTLY AMONG THE LESSER SPIRITS, WHO TWITTER AROUND THEM LIKE BATS. ONLY LIBATIONS OF BLOOD OFFERED TO THEM IN THE WORLD OF THE LIVING CAN REAWAKEN IN THEM FOR A TIME THE SENSATION OF HUMANITY. BEYOND LAY EREBUS, WHICH COULD BE TAKEN FOR A EUPHONYM OF HADES, WHOSE OWN NAME WAS DREAD. THERE WERE TWO POOLS, THAT OF LETHE WHERE THE COMMON SOULS FLOCKED TO ERASE ALL MEMORY, AND THE POOL OF MNEMOSYNE ("MEMORY") WHERE THE INITIATES OF THE MYSTERIES DRANK INSTEAD. IN THE FORECOURT OF THE PALACE OF HADES AND PERSEPHONE SIT THE THREE JUDGES OF THE UNDERWORLD: MINOS, RHADAMANTHUS, AND AEACUS. THERE AT THE TRIVIUM SACRED TO HECATE, WHERE THREE ROADS MEET, THE SOULS ARE JUDGED, RETURNED TO THE FIELDS OF ASPHODEL IF THEY ARE NEITHER VIRTUOUS NOR EVIL, SENT BY THE ROADS MEET, SOULS ARE JUDGED, RETURNED TO THE FIELDS OF ASPHODEL IF THEY ARE NEITHER VIRTUOUS NOR EVIL, SENT BU THE ROAD TO TARTARUS IF THEY ARE IMPIOUS OR EVIL, ORSENT TO ELYSIUM (ISLANDS OF THE BLESSED) WITH THE "BLAMELESS" HEROES. IN THE SIBYILLINE ORACLES, A CURIOUS HODGEPODGE OF GRECO-ROMAN AND JUDAO-CHRISTIAN ELEMENTS, HADES AGAIN APPEARS AS THE ABODE OF THE DEAD, AND BY WAY OF FOLK ETYMOLOGY, IT EVEN DERIVES HADES FROM THE NAME ADAM (THE FIRST MAN) SAYINGIT IS BECAUSE HE WAS THE FIRST TO ENTER THERE. IN ANCIENT GREECE IT WAS CUSTOMARY TO PLACE A COIN IN OR ON THE MOUTH OF THE DEAD SINCE THE DEAD WERE REQUIRED TO PAY A FARE TO CHARON, THE FERRYMAN OF HADES. HADES IS THE STANDARD TRANSLATION FOR SHEOL IN THE SEPTUAGINT, JOSEPHUS PHILO OF ALEXANDRIA, AND OTHER JEWISH WORKS WRITTEN IN GREEK. IN THE GREEK VERSION OF AN OBSCURE JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN WORK KNOWN AS 3 BARUCH (NEVER CONSIDERED CANONICAL BY ANY KNOWN GROUP) "HADES" IS DESCRIBED AS A DARK, SERPENT-LIKE MONSTER OR DRAGON WHO DRINKS A CUBIT OF WATER FROM THE SEA EVERY DAY, AND IS 200 PLETHRA (20,000 GREEK FEET, 6 KILOMETERS) IN LENGTH. LIKE OTHER FIRST-CENTURY JEWS LITERATE IN GREEK, EARLY CHISTIAN USED THE GREEK WORD HADES TO TRANSLATE THE HEBREW WORLD SHEOL. THUS IN ACTS 2:27 THE HEBREW PHRASE IN PSALM 16:10 APPEARS IN THE FORM: "YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES."DEATH AND HADES ARE REPEATEDLY ASSOCIATED IN THE BOOK OF REVELATION. THE NEW TESTAMENT USES THE GREEK WORD HADES TO REFER TO THE ABODE OF THE DEAD, A SHADOWLIKE EXISTENCE FORGOTTEN BY THE LIVING (E.G. ACTS 2:31 REVELATION 20:13) ONLY ONE PASSAGE DESCRIBES HADES AS A PLACE OF TORMENT, THE STORY OF LAZARUS AND DIVES. HERE, JESUS DEPICTS A WICKED MAN SUFFERING FIERY TORMENT IN HADES, WHICH IS CONTRASTED WITH THE BOSOM OF ABRAHAM, AND EXPLAINS THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CROSS OVER FROM ONE LOCATION TO THE OTHER. SOME SCHOLARS BELIEVE THAT THIS PARABLE REFLECTS THE INTERTAMENTAL JEWISH VIEW OF HADES (OR SHEOL) AS CONTAINING SEPARATE DIVISIONS FOR THE WICKED AND RIGHTEOUS. IN REVELATION 20:13-14 HADES IS ITSELF THROWN INTO THE "LAKE OF FIRE: AFTER BEING EMPTIED OF THE DEAD. IN LATIN HADES COULD BE TRANSLATED AS PURGATORIUM (PURGATORY IN ENGLISH USE) AFTER ABOUT 1200 A.D. BUT NO MODERN ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS RELATES HADES TO PURGATORY. I HOPE THAT YOU ENJOYED THIS POST ON HADES AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HADES THEN YOU CAN GO TO AND IF YOU LIKED THIS POST THEN PLEASE FOLLOW MY BLOG. ALSO IF YOU HAVE ANY REQUEST FOR POST THEN FEEL FREE TO ASK AND I WOULD BE HAPPY TO WRITE A POST FOR YOU.

According To GQ, Every Cleveland Team Is Tied For The Worst Sports Franchise Of All Time

It's tough to pick the worst sports franchise ever. There are many competing variables that go into making a franchise "bad." Number of losses, championship drought length, bad ownership, severity of scandals, and so on. For GQ, it appears the only variable considered (and we applaud their commitment to keeping things simple) was this: How bad does this team suck?

Therefore, are you surprised that every Cleveland franchise was tied for first (worst) on their list? Yes: The Indians, the Browns, and the Cavaliers are all the worst team ever. (Though the list says "Every Cleveland Sports Franchise," we're not sure if the Cleveland Rockers or Lake Erie Monsters are included in that tally, but, yeah, probably.)

Chocolate and Peanut Butter, Guillermo del Toro and the Simpson's Treehouse of Horror

The only bad thing about GUILLERMO DEL TORO being involved in this year's Treehouse of Horror is that he's not writing and directing the entire episode.

No, del Toro, like other artists well known for having a particular style before him, is just doing an extended opening credits sequence for "Treehouse of Horror XXIV," in which he will be giving the audience a bit of a history lesson in the monsters and characters of classic horror film. Del Toro's work, on Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth, to name only two, is certainly influenced by a life-long love of classic horror. If I had to pick a theme for him to work with though, I probably would have had him do a Lovecraft inspired bit. After all, At the Mountains of Madness isn't going to happen anytime soon, and I want to see his take on it.

EIGHT EXCEPTIONAL(LY DUMB) AMERICAN ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY

THE CRIMSON GHOST (1990)

This was originally a 12-chapter serial released back in 1946 packed with crazy fight scenes involving people getting clobbered with chairs and leap diving at their enemies. There's also lots of death-defying bits as that's how these serial-things usually end a chapter on a cliff-hanging note. The titular villain is a goofy skull-masked fellow, who looks like he should be battling Captain America, with an equally goofy weapon called a Cyclotrode, that's some sorta death-ray/atomic-bomb deflector/electrical disruptor or something or another. The Crimson Ghost was then re-edited and re-released as a TV-series in the 50's, then condensed into a movie version in 1966 called CYCLOTRODE X and then finally colorized and released on VHS in a different condensed version as THE CRIMSON GHOST. I've only seen this last 1990-version and I gotta think that might be the best way to view this nowadays unless you enjoy watching scenes repeated over and over in the serial form. Or maybe you could just watch one chapter and come back a week later for the next one to simulate the original theatrical showings.

This is really best remembered today by punk-rockers everywhere as the place The Misfits took their logo from and it's a pretty cool look. Unfortunately the Crimson Ghost doesn't really do much fighting here. He leaves that up to his henchmen, one of which is played by Clayton Moore who went on to become TV's The Lone Ranger.

One other interesting thing about this film is that the lead lady here actually gets to do a bunch of stuff that women of this era didn't usually do in movies. She wears pants, gets right into the fighting action and is even allowed to drive a car at one point. Way to go sister! Check this one out for some wacky 40's criminal hijinks.

Can you feel it? That stirring in the air? That excitement on the way? No? I do. It's the feeling of Wolverine Legends about to hit direct retail and the feeling of joy as I finally free Puck from his plastic prison. In that one little step I will be all that much closer to completing the long overdue Alpha Flight. Yes, Alpha Flight. That amazing Canadian superhero team that first rose to stardom in the issues of The Uncanny X-Men, only to fall into mediocrity and become the laughing stock of the Marvel Universe.

A Short Story

Hi everyone!

So I had an idea for a story. It's a very very thinly veiled story. I figured, why not write it down on here, maybe someone will eventually get what i'm saying.
