The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXIV Halloween Special is set to open with a Guillermo del Toro-created sequence featuring monsters and creatures from popular horror films of the past decades. This should be enough reason to park yourself in front of the TV right before the opening credits start to roll.
The Treehouse of Horror series has become an annual spookfest featuring three separate stories of horror involving the good 'ol people of Springfield. It is often a parody (and sometimes homage) to popular shows and characters in horror, supernatural and science fiction genre.
In keeping with the tradition, the XXIV Halloween special will feature three stories, the first of which would see Homer wreaking havoc in Springfield in a rhyming take on a children's story. The second chilling story, "Dead and Shoulder" finds Bart and Lisa sharing the same body when Bart was decapitated and his head was attached to Lisa's body. The third tale of terror, "Freaks No Geeks", follows Mr. Burns and his travelling circus, The Burnsum and Bailey Circus, as they make a pitstop in Springfield in the 1930s.
Del Toro's string of commercially and critically acclaimed horror and monster films (and everything in between), makes him the perfect choice to do the Treehouse of Horror opening sequence. Would it be a stretch to see Kaijus attack Springfield and Jaegers come to the rescue? We'll find out soon enough. The episode airs on October 6 at 8 p.m on Fox.
