Casting Couch: Gina Carano Ready to Don Skimpy Threads For Rob Liefeld's 'Avengelyne,' Four Big Actors Looking to Scale 'Everest,' and More

What is Casting Couch? It's the casting news roundup that hopes everyone had a great weekend thinking about Supermans and X-Mens, and are now ready to dig into some news about movies where nobody has lasers coming out of their eyes. Read on for news concerning Adrian Brody, Rose Byrne, Pacific Rim's Charlie Hunnam, and Community's Gillian Jacobs.

Okay, so maybe let's cover one extra bit of comic book movie news before we put that world to rest for a few days. It looks like ROB LIEFELD's old Image character Avengelyne is getting ready to come to the big screen. is reporting that the comic creator best known for his spot-on portrayal of human anatomy is teaming up with MMA fighter turned actress GINA CARANO to make the deal happen. Liefeld will produce and Carano will star in this tale of a sword-wielding, thong-wearing fallen angel who comes to Earth in order to find and protect a new messiah. The timing seems to be right for this one, because that's basically the same synopsis as every single genre movie the big studios have in production at the moment.

Josh Brolin

BALTASAR KORMAKUR's (The Deep) upcoming mountain-climbing disaster movie, EVEREST, seems to be off to the best start ever when it comes to getting people's attention. Deadline is reporting that Kormakur is currently in negotiations with JOSH BROLIN, JOHN HAWKES, JAKE GYLLENHAAL, and JASON CLARKE to star, and they're basically the four horsemen of awesome. This one is set to be about a disastrous 1996 expedition up the mountain that was hammered with a terrible storm, killing 8 people in total, but probably none of the details really matter past those four names starring in the film. If everyone signs on officially, that's one exciting cast.

Adrian Brody

ADRIAN BRODY seems to be very hands on about getting a biopic of Kenneth Grahame, the author of that very famous children's book, "The Wind in the Willows," made. Not only is he set to produce the upcoming film, called BANKING ON MR. TOAD, but is reporting that he's going to star in it as well. Mexican director LUIS MANDOKI is set to helm the film, which will combine live action actors with CG characters while focusing on Grahame's relationship with his wife and ailing son. I guess this is going to be one of those things where the creator's works starts intruding on his real life?

Charlie Hunnam

CHARLIE HUNNAM, whose career recently got a huge boost through his starring role in Guillermo del Toro's well-liked monsters vs. robots movie, Pacific Rim, looks to have another starring role in the works. is reporting that he's been attached to a new film called TRIPLE NINE, which is a cop drama that's also eyeballing CHRISTOPH WALTZ and CATE BLANCHETT for featured roles. Lawless director JOHN HILLCOAT is directing the film, which takes its name from a police code that refers to there being an officer down.

Rose Byrne

is reporting that another big name is circling the cast for ANNIE. According to their report, ROSE BYRNE is being looked at to play Grace, who's the assistant to the "Daddy" Warbucks-inspired character that's being played by JAMIE FOXX. So far, other than Foxx, the film has QUVENZHANE WALLIS on board as the title character orphan, and CAMERON DIAZ signed as the bitchy head of the orphanage where all of the poor little dears live. That would make Byrne number four. Will Gluck is directing.

Britt Robertson

BRITT ROBERTSON, who's currently appearing in CBS' Under the Dome, has just signed on to play a featured role in BRAD BIRD's upcoming, mysterious, GEORGE CLOONEY-starring TOMORROWLAND. has the report, which says that she'll be playing a schoolgirl who has an unusual understanding of technology, and who is sent on a journey to "reclaim her future." Whatever that means. Though we have a vague notion the movie is going to be about robots and the future and whatnot, nobody knows much more than that. It's very mysterious.

Billy Magnussen

Remember how Jake Gyllenhaal was going to play Rapunzel's prince in INTO THE WOODS? Well, scratch that. He needed to drop out due to other commitments. Deadline is reporting that director ROB MARSHALL has recruited BILLY MAGNUSSEN to take his place though. If you're a fan of indie films, perhaps you'll recognize him from recent roles in Whit Stillman's Damsels in Distress, or possibly Zal Batmanglij's The East. The fairy tale-inspired musical is set to start shooting in London this fall.

Dave Franco

Pray for DAVE FRANCO. is reporting that he's just signed on to co-star with VINCE VAUGHN in his upcoming comedy, BUSINESS TRIP, which, sure, might prove to be a really funny project, but sure doesn't sound like it's going to be at first glance. Ken Scott, who's also directing Vaughn's equally awful-sounding Delivery Man, is coming back to make this one as well. Hopefully these movies are much better than we're imagining. Seriously. Cut us some slack, Mr. Vaughn.

Gillian Jacobs

Community actress, GILLIAN "don't call me Jillian" JACOBS has just landed another big screen role. is reporting that she's been cast in the upcoming KEVIN COSTNER-starring, race issue-confronting, child custody drama, BLACK AND WHITE. According to the report, she's going to be playing the girlfriend of the Costner character's best friend, who is being played by BILL BURR. MIKE BINDER (Reign Over Me) is writing and directing.
