Best Older Kids' Lit 1964

Last year, I made a list of my . (Or, as my local bookstore puts it, Intermediate Readers.) As I mentioned at the time, 1963 was a transitional year between the relatively complacent Fifties and the more rebellious Sixties. The same is true of 1964 -- on this list of my 12 favorite novels for older kids from that transitional year, you'll find themes foreshadowing the "problem YA" novels of the later 1960sbut it's all still in good fun. Which is the way I prefer kids' books.

Fifty years after their publication, these 12 books remain relevant and enthralling; I hope that new readers enjoy them as much as I have.

update.

Haven't written a post for a while!

I've been busy. I've been through the process of adopting a rescue dog. We went to visit a rescue dog and she was beautiful but she was so nervous.. And my stepdad made the executive decision that really we'd need to adopt a puppy so we could train it and get it used to our other animals from a young age. And he's right.

Exploring books!

My two little ones love to read.I read somewhere that one of the best indicators of academic success, and success full stop, is how much children are read to when their little.Chickpea has loved being read to since she was around 9 months old.She would point at the bookcase and grunt and I knew that she wasn't finished, she wanted another one.It took Monkey a bit longer but he is well and truly into it now and will sit on the couch for ages looking at books and takes me to the bookcase several times a day shouting, "Book!Book!"So our bookcases are now full and we try to get to the library once a week.I hope they can continue their love of learning and reading throughout their life- well, that's the goal!

B-Fest 2014 Part 2: For Tomorrow We Watch Bad Movies!

Once we settled in to our seats in the auditorium, one of Paul Tennessen's delicious cookies and a Bolthouse Farms fruit smoothie helped restore my body to its original, pre-whiskey factory settings. We got our tickets and shirts, and I put a copy of Colony of the Darkinto the raffle prize pile, and had a couple of hours of chatting before the movie starts. Mike Bockoven got me all excited to see The Act of Killing, which had just been added to Netflix streaming. Mark brought his daughter Gaz along for the first half of the show, and she was really excited for her first B-Fest. Alas, there's never enough time to spend just visiting with all these wonderful people I get to see just once a year, and before you could say, "Push the button, Frank", the movies began.

Robot Jox: The K.O. Brothers sponsored this one, and those boys have a knack for choosing good opening flicks (they also sponsored Best of the Best in 2012). This movie is a really startling mix of cheap, stupid set design and bad model work, combined with fantastic stop-motion robot fights by Dave Allen. Tim and Mike shadowed the opening robot fight dressed as luchadores, and when the evil Russkiebot sprouts a giant chainsaw from its area at the end, Tim went back up on stage with his costume plus a toy chainsaw tucked between his legs, and performed the Buffalo Bill dance from Silence of the Lambs.

What's Remembering Love Got to Do With It?: Me vs. Macross

I'll admit it - the title of this post is probably not the best title to have given this post, but I did want to work in a nod to ghostlighting, formerly head-blogger of , and biggest Macross fan I've ever known. But for me, I can't remember love for Macross since I'd never quite cottoned on to the franchise previously. It wasn't for a total lack of trying; Macross is one of those things I've attempted to get into previously, or at least watch some of, because of its presence within fandom. While the basic elements of the franchise are things I either generally avoid (idols, love triangles), or which aren't in and of themselves enough to get me to watch something (mechs), it's the sort of thing with which I feel one should have some familiarity due to what is has in turn influenced and because it's the sort of anime that one feels compelled to watch if one wishes to have full fluency as a serious anime fan. I've attempted Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion for the same reasons (although both of these have much, much higher profiles in Western fandom than does Macross due to the apparently endless licensing snafu Macross got snagged into years ago) (by the way, I've flamed out spectacularly with both those franchises; I thought I'd finally hit pay gold with the Evangelion manga but I only cracked open the fourth omnibus to confirm that, yes, Kaworu does kiss Shinji in it, and it has gathered dust in the months since) (yes, I know this means I'm a failure as an anime fan).

So it was that I tried the first movie of the franchise, Do You Remember Love?, and stalled about fifteen minutes in, having been interrupted but never gotten back to. Then, my little brother, of all people, had Macross Plus on DVD, so I borrowed it from him - after all, surely even I could do four episodes! Alas, this was in vain, too. Finally, the Macross Frontier movies seemed to present the perfect opportunity; I could get the story of Frontier in about half the time it would take to watch the TV series, AND the animation was lovely, AND the first movie, the only one out at that time, supposedly fixed some of the nagging issues the TV series had! Perfect!

January 2014 Round-Up

What a month to kick start 2014! I watched three 2014 films, new releases on DVD as well as a few classics. Not only that but I also completed Sherlock series 1,2 AND 3 as well as watching the outstanding war Mini-series Band of Brothers for the very first time.

Favorite Film Discoveries of 2013

Ken is a freelance writer, editor, sometimes podcast guest and all around movie nut always on the lookout for new film experiences. Here are 10 highlights from his journey through 2013.-----------2013 was a difficult year, both personally and professionally. A year filled with more peaks and valleys than usual, my movie viewing choices followed suit. The beginning of the year found me seeking out films with more of a nihilistic bent, with first time viewings of films such as Executive Action (1973), The Parallax View (1974) and Evil Dead Trap (1988), but somewhere around mid-October a change occurred. Halfway through my usual Horror film marathon in celebration of Halloween, I had a sea change. August and September had already seen the number of films I watch in a month drop down to junior high level lows; five films in all of August and only four in September. I began questioning what pleasure, if any, I was actually receiving from watching films anymore. It seemed that the old comfortable friend I've known since childhood had changed, possibly deserting me for good. A shocking consideration. It was then that I took a bit of a break. I scrapped my Halloween movie marathon plans. Took some time away. I'd gotten caught up in the numbers game, keeping monthly and yearly tallies of the films I'd seen, doing my best to top the previous year's totals and I had hit the wall. After a few weeks, I decided that I'd focus more on the quality of the films I'd choose to see, explore other genres I'd never even considered before (Romantic Comedies!?!), and not worry so much about having to see EVERYTHING within a particular genre. This refocusing has paid off in spades, allowing me to discover some gems that I might not have ever considered previously. While 2013 was a difficult and challenging year, it was also a rewarding year and one full of new growth. Here then are 10 examples, 10 signposts along a filmic journey full of blind turns, peaks and valleys, a journey that found me off course and miles from where I thought I'd be, but a journey that's been far more rewarding because of it.

10) NORTHVILLE CEMETERY MASSACRE (1976)Dir. William Dear, Thomas L. DykeHyperbolized in some circles as The Greatest Biker Film Ever Made! And The Ultimate Biker Film, NORTHVILLE CEMETERY MASSACRE has a lot going for it. It's violent, nihilistic and as bloody as you'd expect any post Easy Rider (1969) film to be, with some outstanding squib work and a climactic showdown placing it firmly between The Wild Bunch (1969) and A Better Tomorrow II (1987). But, what really hooked me, what really separated this film from the rest of the pack, was the sense of "family;" something no AIP biker flick had every managed to convey. These individuals dwelling on the edge of society have found themselves bound together by the laws and pressures of "normal" society, and when those pressures become too great, leading to a wrongful arrest for rape, that the feet come off the pegs, the engine revs and a quest for justice begins. This film, shot independently in Michigan in 1972 (unreleased theatrically until 1976), with its excellent use of locations and natural (real-life) characters makes the film, at times, feel like a documentary, and it's here where its reputation is made.Available through VCI Entertainment.

9) BOULEVARD NIGHTS (1979)Dir. Michael PressmanTaking place in East L.A. as the last rhythms of disco fade out, paving the way to a much darker world filled with drugs and gang violence, BOULEVARD NIGHTS is a snapshot of a city and lives in transition just before the collapse. Equal parts Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Boys N The Hood (1991), BOULEVARD NIGHTS is an anomaly that, perhaps was too honest for audiences back in 1979, but was a prescient oracle of things to come. Cool, charming and every bit as fun and funky as its better known east coast predecessor, NIGHTS goes deeper, telling the story of two brothers, one who has it all and the other who wants it and is too impatient to wait. Coupled with a slick soundtrack by Lalo Schifrin and a contrasting color palette of cool blues and burning browns, BOULEVARD NIGHTS has been highly regarded for setting the story straight, telling it like it is (was). It's a shame more audiences didn't take notice when it pled its case. As it is now, it's an intriguing artifact of lives in flux and one that can still resonate today.Available through Warner Home Archive.

Malphas stood before the mirror dressed in the simple and elegant attire of a butler. His smart black tail coat accentuated the perfectly muscular, lithe and angular long lines of his human form and he glanced again at the gilded gold watch in his hand before smoothing a gloved hand over the clear crystal-cut face of the clock. He wondered, not for the first time how a human would feel in his place; a human awaiting the presence of a girl who he had literally been sent for. He smirked as a small voice suggested guilt but he ignored it; seduction had always come easily to him and he had as long as he needed in human time to get the deed done. She would not even know what happened because afterwards he would suck her soul out of her body, burn the large manor and leave for his throne. It was a shame really; the manor was an extravagant work of art and burning it was not something he was looking forward to but now he was bound by an oath that sat atop his handsome looking bedside table in the form of a dark purple rose stained by his own blood, preserved by darkness and enchantments that no human being could handle without being destroyed.

Outdated Review

Even though I call these things "Outdated" reviews, this is one is a little more relevant than most will be. The 17th of December saw the release of the first episode of the second season of The Walking Dead. More recently, the fourth season of The Walking Dead saw its midseason premiere. What's that, you're confused? In case you haven't kept abreast of Telltale Games' doings for the last several years, computer games can do that whole "season" and "episode" thing now. Let me try and explain how the TV show and the game are (and aren't) connected. Both are based on a series of graphic novels called (surprise) The Walking Dead. While the AMC show is a rough retelling of the Graphic Novel's overall story, with many liberties taken, the Telltale game follows a different story entirely, set in the same world but with a different cast of characters. BUT there is also another Walking Dead game, Survival Instinct, which is a spin-off from the show. But that's not a very good game anyway. So don't worry too much about it.

The parts that'd be considered more in line with the Adventure Game norm are simplified a great deal.

Seeing the abundance of creativity that flows from my fingers because I'm restrained in the fact that no one knows what is going on! I told a couple female friends that they are amazing (out of the blue with no provocation) because it should be known that they absolutely are! It's strange today because I'm starting to find out so much more about this world by shutting a few doors in my life, even if it goes only for a week. Not trying to tell people things that are happening in hopes they'll like the same things or share it. I fully believe Facebook is a disease and I'm happy to rid myself of it. I'm actually surprised in myself that I haven't checked it.

A few things though: the pic above is a picture I sent to a few friends. I never drink Diet Coke except for one day a year, this day. January 27th. It's saved into my calendar and I remember because it's the day after another friend's (Luke's) birthday. This day is one of my best friend's mom's birthday. Before you think the worst of me, it's nothing creepy but for remembrance. She has been gone for a few years now and my best friend seemed lost when she passed. He is my brother in every sense of the word. His sons will get to grow up and learn about this amazing lady too. It's weird to think he doesn't have much of a family but he has built one with his fiancand he has me I sent him that pic and the response I got from him was 'You are the King. No Doubt."

Sunset Overdrive Story Rumored to Hit Shelves in October

Both of the Next-Gen consoles didn't come with any outstanding exclusives but the sales number shows that both of the consoles didn't really need these exclusive to sell systems. But sooner or later better exclusives will need to come along.

Although Microsoft would be relying most on their popular franchises of Halo and Gears of War, but new IPs are always needed to keep it fresh for the consumers, and none of them looks as exciting as Sunset Overdrive.

Fwoosh Happy Hour- Transformers Third Party Warbotron, S.H. MonsterArts Alien, and Captain America:The Winter Soldier!

Lean night tonight, and late, but I had to run up to a buddy's house. This guy hit the convention circuit hardcore, runs a booth. I know what you are thinking. You may be right. But I've never been in a toy warehouse so this was pretty exciting. So much old stuff, walls and shelves lined, so many toys I didn't see a quarter of it. And you know how you have to look at the toy aisle several times to make sure you didn't miss anything? It was like that times one hundred. Just insane. I can't imagine keeping track of something that massive. What? No, that's not what she said. It's Happy Hour!

Morning Rush

Robokillah and VeeBee were so happy about my 3A press release yesterday that they asked me to post something every morning, short sweet and to the point. Today I give you Bandai's official announcement for their MonsterArts Alien figure from the original 1979 movie by Ridley Scott. Yeah 35 years ago. Whoa. Makes me feel really old. As you guys might know I ordered 3 of the and I'll be reviewing 2 of them next week.

VeeBee posted his and I reviewed the . I'm a whore for most things Alien and after getting my MonsterArts AvP Aliens I am all in. These are 1/12, six inch scaled Aliens and they are amazing. Reading the specs below Big Chap is going to be 180mm, 18cm, or just over 7 inches. That means he will be representing a fully grown Drone, perfectly in scale with 6 inch action figures like Marvel Legends. Holy crap I wet myself!

Good god, I leave for a little while and come back only to find that aside from "American Horror Story," there's pretty much no love on this blog for all the freaks and geeks out there! We need some science fiction and some supernatural chaos up in this beast!

Tomatin-The Other Bottlings Part 1

I just love Tomatin whisky - from the unbelievable bargain of the Legacy expression (their young spirit in wood is a fantastic experience on the nose and carries the trademark soft fruit and oak backbone - 94.5 Jim Murray and only EUR25) to the 30 year old, which was a real game changer for me.I tried the whole core range at a tasting , and have been seeking out interesting other (non-core or independent) bottlings since.

One of the things that fascinates me about whisky is the one-offs, the single casks, the independent bottlings from casks that might have changed hands a few times, and the journey the casks or bottles take through brokers and retailers. The archivist in me feels the need to try them all, even just a little bit, and learn something about them, their character, and write it down before they're gone.Trying these different bottlings gives you a real insight into the soul of the spirit that comes from a distillery - very different to drinking the core range, blends of many casks intended to generate a consistent profile over time.

pupa Ep. 4: Afflicted

Wow, what amazing animation! Just to be clear, I believe most of this week's events occur before last week's events. So to take stock, Yume underwent her transformation at the park and attacked a bystander. Afterwards, Utsutsu tried to approach her, but she attacked him too. Maria and her people recovered Utsutsu's body, but he broke free and killed two scientists in the process. Maria lets him go so that he can serve as live bait. Then, this is what we see in last week's episode: Yume feasting on her brother's flesh in the restroom. Again, I just wanted to recap things so we know where we are in the narrative.

Anyway, I don't think I have any grand analysis to add this week. I feel as though this week's episode merely reinforces what I've been saying thus far. A couple notes:

BIGGEST LOSER "19" (WEEK TWO) -- "HOW THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY CAN HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT"

I've always heard that if one person is asking a question, more are thinking it, so it's always good to encourage questions. In Biggest Losers, we've been talking about creating a daily calorie deficit. This is where you burn more calories than you take in, so your body will start burning fat to make up the difference.

One of our Biggest Losers picked up a new wristband called the fitbit(tm). It's one of several products like it that hook up to a smart phone and help you track your calories, even while you're sleeping. They run around $100 and can really give you an edge if you're trying to lose weight.

Climbing To New Lows: The Worst Of Comics In 2013

SORRY I'M LATE, FOLKS.

It's time once again -- well, actually, it's PAST TIME -- to highlight some of the WORST COMICS MOMENTS OF 2013. This should have been done WEEKS AGO, but hey, I've been busy, especially with a VERY ACTIVE ONE-YEAR-OLD running around the house. I'll give you the usual caveats: I have neither the time nor the money to have read every comic from last year, so I've likely missed some real clunkers, especially since I gave my pull list an indefinite NU52-ECTOMY in the last quarter of the year. So here are:

Samurai Flamenco Ep. 15: Nice Justice!

How does the saying go? "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain?" I'm departing a bit from my usual format because I really want to focus on this week's episode of SAMURAI FLAMENCO for a bit. At the same time, however, it's a show where I don't think my notes on it are particularly interesting enough to include at the bottom like what I usually do with other individual episodes. So we'll just forget about them entirely and jump right into the nitty-gritty: what did I think about this episode? Well, who really knows why the Prime Minister of Japan is so goddamn powerful? Maybe he used to be a hero himself, but the main point is that the world has become cynical. You learn this straight from Beyond Flamenco's own mouth:

[Why fight for] world peace? As long as there are humans, they will find causes to start wars. There's no point in fighting for what will never happen. This is what I thought. And at the moment I realized that, I ended up this way. You, I, and all the rest have no reason to do this. We're all the same. The only difference is what we're crazy about, how we're crazy, and [the] degree to which we're crazy. That's all. No matter what happens, this phase will end shortly. I've given up on this world. One day you will be defeated.

Ryan Murphy loves to put hidden clues in his 'American Horror Story' finales, and it looks like the 'Coven' finale offered up the biggest sneak peek yet! Find out why one crucial word - Balenciaga! - likely gave away the plot of Season 4.

Ryan Murphy already told us that Season 4 of American Horror Story would take place in the 1950 s, and that JESSICA LANGE would need to practice her finest German accent - and now, after "The Seven Wonders," we're pretty sure that we've guessed who she's playing in Season 4! Get the details below. 'American Horror Story: Coven' Finale: Jessica Lange To Play Brigitte H ss?

Game analysis

Silent Hill 3 is the 3rd installment in the Silent Hill series, it was published by Konami for PlayStation 2, and it was developed by Team Silent. The game was released in May 2003, with a port to Microsoft Windows released in October of the same year.

Set seventeen years after the events of Silent Hill, where Harry Mason defeats the God of the town cult and is given a baby girl to take care of. Silent Hill 3 focuses on Heather Mason, a teenage girl raised by Harry in Portland. Heather discovers the cult is planning to use her to birth their God, and gets caught in a conflict within the cult.

Agent of S.T.Y.L.E.

Last week, , and discussed how he was created. Now, we're going to take a look at the other folks who have worn the name and appearance of "Venom." Now, it's true that the living alien costume that turns its hosts into Venom has spawned other symbiotes such as Carnage, Mania and others. But they can get their own focus at some point. If we include them here, this piece is just going to be too long. Thanks for your patience and let's get on with the show!

SHE-VENOM

This Handmade 'Silent Hill' Mumbler Is Bloody, Adorable

When I think of SILENT HILL, the words that immediately come to mind are cute, adorable, charming, and maybe even delightful. This little guy personifies all of the above, and if I could, I'd buy an army of them so I could smother them with affection.

Now, in case he doesn't look all that familiar -- I wouldn't blame you if you reside in the States -- this is the Mumbler, found in the original SILENT HILL. This monster replaced the Grey Children in the Japanese and European releases, which, by the way, turns fifteen tomorrow (the reason behind our ). Read on to see him in all his high-resolution glory!

Evie Reads: Books for Toddlers II.

It has long been a dream of mine to write children's books, so I sent out on a quest to actually read children's books - a lot of them. I've found that I love outlandish, imaginative, quirky stories the best and that reading to your kid gets a whole lot more fun as they get older. A few months ago, I started this series with a list of board books that were best for a baby up to an 18 month old. A few of those stories are still favorites around here, mostly for the sake of nostalgia, but Ev has outgrown most of them. I had only intended on doing one or two posts in this series because then I though to myself, "How many good books for toddlers can there be out there?" It turns out, there's a lot. A whole new world of books has been opened up to me. It's probably strange to hear an adult so excited about children's books, but I don't remember there being stories like these out there when I was a kid, or at least I never read them. Like I said, I have this little dream growing inside of me and the flame gets a little bigger each time I find a new favorite. I've been tucking away little stories and characters and illustration ideas for a 'someday' when I get the time and courage to sit down and actually start this project. For now, I'll keep sharing our favorites that accompany us home from the library each week. As I write this, I have a stack of 20 or so more that we've been reading through and I can't wait to share them with you! This is quickly becoming my favorite thing to write about in this space, and I hope you all like this series as much as I do.

AN AWESOME BOOK BY DALLAS CLAYTON: When I think of the perfect children's book I think of something fun and quirky and imaginative and a story that doesn't make any sense at all and that makes you smile, because isn't that what kids are like? 'An Awesome Book' is full of these things and more. It's based on the simple concept of dreaming big - It's touching without being cheesy, inspirational but still interesting, and it's a story that can grow with your kids. When they're young and everything is possible, they can read of rocket powered unicorns and candy cane machines and magical watermelon boats - when they're a bit older they can be inspired by the reality that dreams really are possible. In a world full of children's books that have too many problems to be solved, too many children being bratty and 'learning lessons', and too much focus on learning your ABC's instead of using your imagination, this is a welcome book to our bookshelf. A big plus in my book is that the illustrations could make up an interesting book all on their own. They're childlike and hand drawn and Ev could look at each page for hours! This really is one worth buying.

Supernatural Review: Garth's Back and He Bites

This week's episode of Supernatural was the most-watched episode since 2010 with 2.8 million viewers according to . While this could have possibly had something to do with every other network showing President Obama's State of the Union speech, the Winchesters still know how to reel in the viewers.

But was this the most epic episode that any diehard fan would have cursed themselves for missing? Not so much.

The Nightmare of Black Island by Mike Tucker

"Lewis Carroll. He was an odd one. Real name was Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Completely denied having anything to do with the Alice books. Daft as a brush. You'd have liked him! Loved inventing words. Ever read Jabberwocky? Loads of good words in there. "Tulgy", "whiffling", "galumphing". And "burbled". How come "burbled" gets to be in the Oxford English Dictionary but "tulgy" doesn't? Hm?'"

My first Doctor Who novel. Late, I know. But the idea of books based on TV series has always made me uncomfortable. The annoying Buffy Season 8* did nothing to help; but if I write about that, I'll probably burst into angry flames. These, though, are highly addictive, I have since read two more, the third arrives any day now!

Day 29: Difficult Shows to Start

Have you ever wanted to what a show that you've heard about, only to find it difficult to get into? You can't start at current/later seasons, and starting from the beginning sometimes means watching episodes over a decade old. Not all of these shows age well and many of its fans love them due to loyalty or nostalgia goggles.

I've run into this issue with multiple shows, so I'm going to do my best to explain when certain shows should hook you. At the very least, I'll explain when they hooked me.

American Horror Story: Coven Review: The Monster in the Closet

I know I'm not a member of the Coven and therefore don't understand all the rules, but why were only the young ladies initially eligible to audition for the role of Supreme on ? I was bummed when the episode opened and both Myrtle and Delia were exempt from performing the seven wonders.

Nonetheless, the seven wonders failed rather miserably, without anyone reigning supreme at the end of the exercise. And that's when Myrtle read my mind and allowed Delia to try out with the rest of the ladies. Yes, it was weird that Delia was looking around with her damaged eyes at various points--she was supposed to be blind. But I was able to overlook that because her participation in the exercise was so exciting.

It's almost like he's been possessed by the spirit of Charlie Sheen (which by the way, will someone please check on Charlie Sheen).

Book Review: The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking)

The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking) by Patrick Ness.I have been putting this whole series off for ages. Whenever a book becomes highly rated either on Goodreads or just in personal recommendations I immediately have no desire to read it anymore. It's a vicious cycle and it goes a little something like this: A book starts off (like almost every book) completely unknown. When someone begins reading it they have little to no expectations except maybe to escape reality for a few hours. Since they have low expectations the book will really impress them. They'll recommend it highly to their friends and the good people of Goodreads. And then what do you know, an average rating of 4.0 +. When other people see this amazing rating they'll get the book and start reading it with really high expectations and sometimes (I'll admit) the book really does live up to those expectations, but other times the reader will become disappointed in what they read. Then they'll swear off all popular high rated books until they're bored of the underdogs. When they do decide to read a popular book again (because let's face it, they will) they'll go in with lower expectations and then whaddya know, they're pleasantly surprised by the book and the cycle starts all over again. This is exactly what happened with me. And yes, I was more than pleasantly surprised.

I'm sure if I read this book with higher expectations that I'd still really enjoy it, but since I didn't it, I absolutely loved it. When I first started this book I thought, "oh hey, this is a lot like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer!" and as I continued reading I realized I was only partially right; it's written with the same speech style and a little of the same tone but the underlying themes are much more complex. Normally, the phonetically written words would have bugged me (informayshun, direkshun), I would have been pulling out my hair out and eventually thrown my kindle across the room, but in this book I actually enjoyed reading it. I even found myself a few times reading out loud with southern drawl.

Hello ladies, peoples, and animals it is I, the Arcane Reviewer! Here to bring you another special. So yeah....no Phantom review. How To Take Off Pounds (and Keep Them Off!)

It is time to do something about the weight you need to lose. Your weight is spiraling out of control. You think about it all the time, your joints are hurting, and you keep having to buy new clothes. Keep reading to learn some great ways to lose weight.

For some, weight loss is easier if they do not have a workout routine. This is particularly important for people who dread the thought of going to a gym. Find a non-traditional workout such as dancing, playing catch, riding bikes, or hiking. These activities can feel much more enjoyable and rewarding, and they are less likely to feel like work.

Archetypes CCR

In English class we have been learning all about character archetypes, so I am going to write this blog about character archetypes.

Archetypes are images or ideas that have passed through many generations without really changing. For example, almost every culture has a story like Cinderella but with minor changes.

The Blacklist: Five Films I Hate That Everyone Else Loves

When I was a young lass with barely a handful of overreactions and needlessly capitalised opinions to call my own, I had a school teacher who offered me this sage advice when it came to debating: "Don't rant. When you rant, we stop listening." Which - don't get me wrong - was all well and good within the confines of structured debating competitions largely dominated by chinless male adolescents whose sense of self-importance was directly proportional to how much they wished their voice would just drop already.*But this is a blog, so sorry Mrs Edwards, I am going to rant my little digital socks off.

In summary, the following films are abominations and deserve to be fire-bombed out of existence.

Read Women 2014

#ReadWomen2014 began when author and designer JOANNA WALSH created a series of five '' to give out as new year presents. The cards featured cartoons of Walsh's favourite female writers, including MARGUERITE DURAS and GERTRUDE STEIN, with a list of 250 more authors she admired on the reverse. Walsh was encouraged to tweet the names, and other tweeters joined in with their suggestions. From there, the idea snowballed, with readers, journalists and bloggers committing to reading more books by women, to try and challenge traditional imbalances in the way female authors are packaged and reviewed.

While there are more women reading books than men, and there are about as many women writing as there are men, this isn't reflected in the media, as the annual reports show. This is particularly true of high end publications, with the London Review of Books being a notable bastion of male privilege. Women have had a good record at literary awards recently, but even then authors have had to put up with sexist coverage ('natural blonde' ELEANOR CATTON at the Booker, for example) and dreadful covers, as any visit to Waterstone's will testify. The aim of Read Women 2014 is to make people think more about their reading habits, making small individual steps towards a level playing field.

SYDNEY CRAFT BEER WEEK 2013 - POSTED ON OUTINSYDNEY.COM.AU - OCTOBER 2013

The 30+ breweries that participated in Sydney Craft Beer Week, the 60+ events they managed, forty-seven venues that hosted them and the absolute die-hard squadron of beer geeks in attendance only reflect the unwavering enthusiasm that at least part of the population of Sydney shares their dissatisfaction with drinking terrible beer. For this reason, the feeling amongst the punters for the week was of serious celebration that provided an arrogance-free environment to be discerning about what you were drinking and to relish the short period of time where that kind of variety, quality and volume are available.

As with all things in life, experience is relative.

The person who has spent the past 30 years of his or her life hammering in nails is very likely to be better at this particular skill than someone who has been doing it for only 10.

Xam'd: Lost Memories Review

A teenage boy accidentally receives the power to turn into a monster.

Xam'd is very similar and will obviously be compared to another Bones work Eureka Seven. They both center around a teenage male who gets involved with a mysterious girl and joins an airship crew. Naturally I also have issues with Xam'd that are comparable to the ones I have with Eureka Seven. Most of them concern the characters. It's not that they're bad or anything. I just couldn't get myself emotionally invested in them and found a lot of them to be very generic. Most of the characters aside from all of the teenagers didn't receive any development or exposition at all.

Gungrave [Animated Series]

This is a series I need to find time to rewatch as it has a constant dark presence over your typical quiet hero protagonist. It is similar to Berserk as far as personality and the theme it aims for. From the creators of Trigun I can see their style in some of the concept design. A worthwhile series that stands well on its own separate from Trigun.

Brandon Heat and his friend Harry are orphans on the streets surviving by thieving and other means. They soon gain the attention of high rise gangsters and gradually move up the chain of command. Throughout the series we see their friendship tested and evolve to become something neither of them truly saw coming. Betrayal is the main theme, but the series also includes survival through gaining power and the question of how long before it finally corrupts.

Anniversary Present

So I thought this was interesting.

Yeah, I am not sure why I thought so either, but it could be because I am reminiscing about D&D thanks to it celebrating it's 40th birthday AND the fact that I am now in a (*shudder*) Pathfinder game. Honestly, it's making me miss some of my favorite old campaigns. I sure hope I get to run Champions and Star Wars D6 again soon.

Worlds You'd Never Want To Live In!

are hosts to the awesome TOP TEN TUESDAY feature, and I've decided to do this one on my blog every last Tuesday of the month. I initially wanted to do it on a weekly basis but let's be honest here, my BA thesis and final music exam will be taking a toll on my free time once the summer semester starts, so why not make it a part of my monthly schedule instead!

This week is a list of worlds you'd never want to live in, and to no one's surprise, it's basically also TOP TEN DYSTOPIA'S YOU'D BE SCARED SHITLESS LIVING IN! Colorful language right there! (Be prepared, I'm going to be a lit-tle sarcastic with this!)

The Shelf: THE FIFTH ESTATE, CLOUDY 2, FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN

This week's movies all seem to be about obsession and madmen and the monsters they create. Weird, right? I mean, sometimes things just work out that the world's collective unconscious decides that this one day is when disparate yet similarly-themed films would all be released on home video platforms, that regardless of genre or medium, today would be the day for it to all come together in massive, cosmic harmony. Or it's just a huge coincidence; I'm not convinced either way.

The dissemination of information is a very touchy subject, given the ease of sharing things with millions of people. Look at the whole Quentin Tarantino thing and how quickly that was blown up. But that was just a script getting leaked; it's a whole separate level when that information might cause the harm or death of people. Whether or not the public has a right to know things is the argument at the center of Bill Condon's The Fifth Estate, a movie that describes the humble beginnings of Julian Assange's WikiLeaks all the way through the 2010 scandal that released pages and pages of U.S. government secrets and, eventually, which named many names that were redacted by the "legitimate" news agencies, like the New York Times and The Guardian. It's a very of-the-moment story, or at least of the recent past story.

Lessons from Mark Twain's "The Awful German Language"

In an earlier blog Heidelberg & Mark Twain, I speculated why Mark Twain had liked the name "Heidelberg," the city where he stayed with his family for several months in 1878. (This topic had offered itself, as our German 1 traveler during his visit to Heidelberg learns the English translation of the city's name and its relevance to Mark Twain.)

Twain's love-hate relationship with The Awful German Language, published as an Appendix to his "A Tramp Abroad," makes for amusing reading for anyone grappling with the the German language - and is especially hilarious to a native German speaker as he looks at German though Twain's eyes!

Staff Picks, Part III

Here's the rest of the bay!

Plots and Intrigue. Incompetent sky pirates. Dark magic. Airships everywhere. This first book in the Tales of the Ketty Jay series is a thoroughly enjoyable, thoroughly swashbuckling read. If you're still mourning the demise of Firefly, this series might cheer you up a bit (though NB, much like Firefly it has some brilliant-seeming female characters but also a certain amount of genderfail).

Pentagram Character Concepts: Morgan Shaw

Now lets get into some characters! YEAH! Lets begin with one character of mine that I just adore, for some reason or another. Many of you have probably seen me draw him a lot (its the wizard guy with the long hair who is always scowling). I love him on the base concept, the design and the personality I've given him, so without further adieu lets get going. BUT A WORD OF WARNING. Morgan represents the darkest and most vioelnt that the series will get, and it will get very, VERY dark when he's around. If you have any hang-ups when it come to violence against pregnant women and against children, TURN BACK NOW

10 movies that totally ignored or undermined their subject matter

We all love Hollywood, right? Hell! I know I do!

But what about when Hollywood takes your favourite book, game or comic, strips it apart and rebuilds it as something not even remotely close to the source material? That can really hurt. Below I will be taking a look at 10 movie adaptations that totally undermined their own source material, and then went gallivanting of into the sunset as if nothing bad had just happened.

Superheroine of the Night: Cyndi Lauper

I am a child of the eighties so obviously I think Cyndi Lauper is a superheroine. But look what she wore for the 2014 Grammys:

THAT is heroine chic. And she KNOWS it, too.

Hunting for the Vampire of Barcelona

People chasing the car in which Enriqueta was carted off after her arrest

At the turn of the 20th century, Enriqueta Mart --a woman from the witchcraft-steeped countryside of Catalu a--came to Barcelona. Like many of the poor rural immigrants flooding into Barcelona at the time, she found that the Catalan capital was less "Pearl of the Mediterranean" and more "City of Death." This didn't bother her, though, because it was in Barcelona that she became her country's answer to Jack the Ripper, luring children back to her house, killing them, and then drinking their blood.

7 Questions with Joe Lo Truglio

"In 1975, the movie "Jaws" came out and I became obsessed with it.I drew about a hundred pictures of Great White sharks.Being in kindergarten, this was an odd thing.Nevertheless, Jaws is why I got into movies. It's why I act. It's why I ended up in this completely carnivorous industry.Because of "Jaws", I fell in love with blood and guts.Even at that age, Knew this was weird.I didn't care.Blood and guts led me to horror movies. So I stayed up late and watched everything HBO put on.In 1979 I saw "The Brood".Those little monsters stole weeks of sleep from me.I was sold:Horror was the shit. That revelation led me to Stephen King.Stephen King is the reason I started writing. Then I got older and wanted to be cool.I discovered Bruce Lee, took tae kwon do, and wore acid washed jeans. An engraved vanity plate on my Mercury Zephyr let people know I was the Italian Stallion.Clearly this was when (unbeknownst to me) my knack for comedy was born.

Sometime later, Peckinpah Films showed up at my doorstep.Suddenly, blood, guts, and being cool all got rolled into one.Everything came full circle.I loved the guys Sam put in his movies - especially Oates. The Pat Garrett poster is on my wall, hanging over my head right now. There's a line in it that I live by.Mainly because it's true, but also because James Coburn sounds so fucking badass when he growls it.If you ever see the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. So those movies are the trifecta, the biggies for me.I figure if you're here, you're interested. But maybe you're just here for the resume, in which case:Enjoy the site. You won't need a bigger boat."

I know what you're going through...

No, not exactly. But, you see, if you're struggling with depression or anxiety, I have been there. I hate depression. I hate that it sucked the life out of me. I hate that I have to fight everyday to get up and get going. It's exhausting. My body doesn't react well to the medications either. My whole right side had this feeling of being perpetually "asleep" for weeks. My right foot still doesn't want to cooperate even though my medication has changed.

My depression is a shadow that hides in dark corners that pounces during my weakest moments. However, it is my anxiety disorder that viciously attacks my body without warning. It is absolutely insufferable. Unbearable. Crippling. Overwhelming. Two weeks ago my body went into some weird shock. I woke up on a Monday at 6:30 and my heart was pounding. Something was WRONG. Well, that's how I perceived it. That's all it takes. Anxiety is your body's natural response to stress. It's your fight or flight response turning on. Mine just gets triggered easily. I couldn't get my breathing under control. I began to sweat. I began to sob. Then I threw up for six hours. I was so desperate. No medicine was able to help because I couldn't keep anything down. It's terrifying that I know exactly how people feel in the moments before they commit suicide. They aren't weak. They are sick. They don't know they can get better. That's the difference between me and the victims of suicide who become powerless to the dark, vicious monster that is depression and anxiety. This demon takes over and sucks all the hope of recovery out of their bodies.

Ice Station Cybermen

STORY 029: THE TENTH PLANET

The Tenth Planet is both a debut and farewell. It is the first Cyberman story, a monster that has become one of the most iconic of Doctor Who monsters (who have also undergone many alterations in design throughout the series). It is also the last First Doctor story, where we are left with the very first regeneration. While the actual look of the Cybermen themselves may disappoint (and actually, I figure it didn't look all that good the first go-round), the actual concept of the Cybermen is in itself a splendid one.The Tenth Planet also moves well and on the whole works, albeit not without a few hiccups.

Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi's new look revealed

Doctor Who fans have been given their first glimpse of The Doctor's new look following his latest regeneration.

Peter Capaldi, who replaces Matt Smith, will have a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, white shirt and black Dr Marten shoes.

Winter 2014 Anime Log #1

It's that time again! Winter is upon us, so it's time to look at the barrage of Winter anime! This season, I'm going a bit lighter due to a demanding schedule and to try and find some time for other things (that Bleach retrospective won't continue itself until that damn robot is functioning). That said, I still ended up with a sizable load of shows to follow. Also, I will not be covering shows continuing from last year, so don't expect to see SamFlam, Kill la Kill, Silver Spoon or the like. They all get their own reviews when I finish them, on my own time (but I am indeed following Kill la Kill almost religiously). Continuing shows in other seasons throughout the year will also not be covered, it is strictly all new shows. There will be four logs this time, with a bi-weekly schedule. I hope not to skip weeks this time, but no promises.

And with that explanation done, here's everything I'm following!

Ten TV What-Ifs

Whether X-treme short form like The Forbidden Files or epic like Lost there's an edge that the fantastic holds for me that draws me to it without fail. What can fail is the execution which speaks for most. It is a tough call getting any new material onto a small screen that mostly illuminates only for the well proven let alone a series of stretchy concepts. History will always favour the bold in this case so while the original Star Trek is treasured but Land of the Giants is at best recalled with vague fondness.I've chosen tv rather than cinema here because it can stretch from the miniature to the mountainous to varying purposes. This isn't trying to be comprehensive. Like most of my list posts, it's what occured to me at the time. Happy to read anyone's favourites.

TWLILIGHT ZONE: Five years worth of short-form fantastic fiction shot like contemporary cinema and cast with veteran character actors as well as an impressive list of future stars, Rod Serling's brainchild still delights. I bought the entire set on dvd a few years back and slowly went through them over a year. There are certainly a few turkeys there but there would be with that much screen time. Interestingly, most of the longer fifty-minute episode season 4 is consistently below par; this is one series that knew its limitations (well, after it broke them). But overall such sharp and flavoursome scenaric punch is only rarely to be found in one place. I screened a few at Shadows to pretty much unanimous enthusiasm. I can only imagine what it felt like to find this kind of strangeness coming from a gluey little blue screen with rounded edges. It had to overreach with some of its performances and writing but, you know, it still cuts through. So does the Season 2 and onward theme tune which is still quoted in conversation as aural shorthand for weirdness.

DAVID GARRETT ~ MUSICAL MAVERICK

When a friend asked if I'd go with her to a concert featuring violinist(in San Jose last Tuesday), I expected an excellent show. After all, I'd heard Garret's classical album, ; proving his world renowned talent as a classical musician.

Weekend Box Office: I, Frankenstein Was A Huge Flop

I, Frankenstein flopped at the box office this weekend, earning just $8.3 million domestically, despite being the only new release. You probably assumed that was going to happen given that you're smart enough to read these words, but did you know that it cost $65 million to make? $65 MILLION. Can you imagine having $65 million and spending it on this? That more than 10 people all agreed that this movie was a good idea is as baffling to me as the third reich.

points out that movies like I,Frankenstein and Legend of Hercules seem more designed for foreign audiences anyway, so we don't know until they open in more locations whether they're actually as big of failures as they seem to be right now. Buta sexy monster? I don't know who that appeals to. Foreigners eat up a lot of our scraps, but usually they prefer the ones with aging stars or gladiators in them.

I'm In Love with A Demon

Konnichiwa Mina! It has been a long time that I did not blog for any manga series. Well, I am going to recommend one manga series now as I am reading it lately. I LOVE this shoujo manga. The name is called "Black Bird"! ^.^ BLACK BIRD (, Burakku Baado) is a Japanese supernatural sh jo manga written and illustrated by . It depicts the life of a high school girl who can see supernatural beings. The series has been adapted into a drama CD as well as a light novel. However, I wish it would be adapted into the anime series soon! :) FYI, this is an on-going series. The genres of "Black Bird" are shoujo, romance, comedy, supernatural, fantasy, smut, and action. The series "Black Bird" contain themes or scenes that may not be suitable for very young readers. The story is about a school-girl named, Misao sees things that other people can't. Normally, the monsters would do harmless things. But suddenly, on her sixteenth birthday, the creatures she sees take it farther by trying to kill her. She's saved by a childhood friend from her past, Kyo Usui, who just so happens to be a demon as well. She finds out that she is the rare, "Bride of Prophecy", also known as "The Senka" or "The Holy Fruit", and depends on Kyo for protection from those who wish to eat her for her blood, which gives the consumer incredible power. Characters Description : MISAO HARADA (, HARADA MISAO)Misao is a sixteen-year-old high school student. She has been plagued with the ability to see monsters ever since birth. Because of her ability, she was never able to make any friends until she met Ky . The monsters were harmless until her sixteenth birthday; on the day she turned sixteen, a monster possessing one of the schools idols attacks her. Before she was injured any further, Kycame to save her and healed her wound by licking it. It is then that she discovers that he is a demon and that she is the "bride of the prophecy" for the head of the Tengu Clan; she was chosen to be the wife of the next head of the clan ten years ago. When she was a child, Misao became attached to Kyo and they had made a promise that she would be his bride. However, she was supposed to marry Kyo's older brother, Sho, who was the heir to the clan. As a result, Kyo left Misao's side in order to surpass him and become the heir. At first, she was scared of Kyo for his stoic personality and demonic powers, but grows to trust and understand that he is willing to do anything to be with her. She later falls in love with Kyo and decides to fulfill her promise to him by becoming his wife, once she graduates high school. They begin a romantic and sexual relationship from then on. After Sho's death, Misao notices a change in her powers, which no one is able to touch her and her scent is overwhelming. It is discovered that this is because Misao is pregnant with a demon child. Despite being told the baby could kill her during childbirth, she refuses to abort it because she has grown to love her unborn child. Misao gives birth to a boy whom she named Sou. Instead of dying, a miracle happens when Misao wakes up, and even though it costs her most of her ability to walk, she is able to live happily with Kyo and Sou. KYO USUI (, USUI KY )Kyo is the heir to the Tengu Clan. It is revealed that Kyo is not human but a powerful demon. When he is in his demon form, his hair grown longer, has black wings, and wears a mask that looks like a crow's beak. Perverted and cocky to many, but he treats Misao with a combination of kindness and coldness depending on his mood. Kyo met Misao during their childhood; they quickly developed a strong bond and he fell in love with her. They also made a promise that she would be his bride, which he is determined to fulfill. His older brother, Sho, was supposed to be clan leader, but Kyo surpassed him for Misao's sake (as only a clan leader may seek her as their bride). In order to stay close to Misao, he moved back to his house next door to hers and took a job as a math teacher at her school. He is always protecting her and healing her wounds, also finding moments to steal a kiss. While he cares deeply for Misao, Kyo has deep attachments to those close to him: such that he took Taro under his wings to train him and make him stronger after Taro was abused by Shou. Kyo has deep disdain towards his brother (for his abusive ways) and his father (whom he suspected of murdering his mother). After Sho's death, Kyo learns that Misao is pregnant with his child, a powerful demon child. He is initially happy of the news, but when he learns that the children of the Immortal Fruit will feed on their mothers after childbirth, he wants her to abort the pregnancy but she refuses. When Misao tells him that she loves the baby and it loves her, he comes to care for the baby. Misao gives birth to a boy, whom they name Sou. Misao, by miracle, survives and Kyo is able to live happily with her and Sou.

SHO USUI (/USUI SHO)Kyo's older brother, and original heir to the Tengu Clan. He is 22 years old when he is first introduced. Once the clan realized how cruel he is, Kyo became the heir. When he was the heir, he was supposed to marry Misao. However, he is very cruel to her and does not love her, and even slapped her as a child. He hates that his brother was always there in case he failed to harm Misao. The previous Clan Leader called Kyo "the spare tire" or "back-up plan" because Sho was deemed unfit as the heir due to his abusive and cruel nature. While he despises Misao, he hates that she chose Kyo over him because it made him feel unseless to the clan. In later chapters, however, he shows an emotional side, as he saves Misao from being crushed to death inside a storage house. He is later brought back to life by the efforts of his former attendant Roh. In the last battle between the two brothers, he is killed, but warns Kyo that he wouldn't be like him and kill Misao, implying that he read the last pages of the Immortal Fruit Record.TAROOne of the eight daitengu. He has two brothers, Jiro and Saburo, and they are triplets. They are six years old. After nearly being killed by Sho, Kyo trained him to become stronger. He enjoys cooking and preparing food for Kyo and Misao, and tending to the flowers in the courtyard, despite how much Kyo doesn't like plants that are grown by others.JIROOne of the eight daitengu. He is the triplet brother of Taro and Saburo. He resembles Kyo almost as if they are related, which they are not. He loves misao as a big sister figure and likes seeing her smile. He is later put in charge of taking care of Sou, which annoys him because Sou tends to hide from him and refuses to listen to him. SABUROOne of the eight daitengu. He is the triplet brother of Taro and Jiro. He has bushy dark hair, and enjoys doing things for Kyo and Misao. RAIKOH WATANABELike Misao he can see demons and spirits, and is also in love with her. However, he refuses to believe that humans and demons can live in harmony and uses his abilities to destroy them. Due to this, despite Misao and Kyo's attempts that not all demons are like the one who scared him, due to his attempts to destroy their relationship, ignoring the fact his actions put them both in grave danger, it looks like they will forever be on bad terms. SAGAMI (REAL NAME RYO)Another of the eight daitengu. He is very protective of Kyo, and dislikes Misao at first but he later grows to like her due to her caring personality. He is Hoki's older brother. He has a sickly wife named Ayame, who was later cured by drinking Misao's blood. He is 24 years old and trained the daitengu to fight. Years later, he and Ayame have a son, Ryu, and a daughter, Tsubaki, and he and Hoki are the last daitengu to serve Kyo.HOKI (REAL NAME YU)Another of the eight daitengu, and Sagami's younger brother. He is 15 years old and he looks very feminine. He is very loyal to Kyo and Misao, and by the end of the series, he and Sagami are the last daitengu to serve Kyo.BUZENAnother one of the eight daitengu who's a playboy but a mature person. He is 26 years old. He had loved Kyo and Sho's mother because he considered her to be the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, although he continues to flirt with other young women. A few years after Sou is born, Buzen quits the daitengu and left for an unknown position.ZENKI (REAL NAME GOU)Another one of the eight daitengu. Misao thinks he's scary but an easy-going and funny person. He's 20 years old. He loves and protects children who lost their families. A few years after Sou is born, Zenki quits the daitengu and undergoes training to be a monk at an orphanage.

THE CHARACTER SUMMATION OF JIN

Jin's character was the outcast among outcasts. He had a language barrier so he could not communicate with his fellow castaways. He was suspicious of everyone around him. He was a traditionalist who wanted his wife, Sun, to obey and follow him. He would have found it acceptable to be on the outer limits of the beach camp, alone with Sun, rather than trying to integrate into the new community. Jin's story is like the story of an immigrant landing in a new country and trying to adapt to a new culture.

The writer's guide described Jin as:

Hack for Zenonia 5 2013

Sure, all you do is shoot ragdolls at targets, but you have to think while you do it. Yes, he's terribly annoying but you can only shoot him once, so no real satisfaction. Another wonderful features of zenonia 5 Cheat is the experience cheat in which you will achieve amount ninety nine right after you get rid of one monster. Oregon Trail(Free): This is a fun game, just like the Oregon Trail we used to play on the old Apple Computers in elementary school. With each episode comes a new feature that the player can do, from harpooning your men and erupting volcanoes to making a tornado and flinging them off the island.

With 16 different cultures to choose from you can replay it again and again. It is easily one of the most polished downloadable experiences available on a portable device, period, whether you're considering i - OS devices, the 3DS, the PS Vita, or something else. Before we had full 3D worlds, games like Eye of the Beholder and the Bard's Tale series used a faux 3D view to traverse dungeons and forests as well as fight various monters. Too many misses and you receive a 'fatality' where you lose a limb. Yet another classic, Angry Birds is currently #1 in the App Store.

Monday Morning Uni Watch

One of the sadder aspects of covering the uniform beat is that it's my job to watch the Pro Bowl. And that aspect of the job was never sadder than last night. I had considered getting one of the interns to handle it, but that seemed too cruel. So there I was last night, along with the Pro Bowl's 23 other viewers, parked in front of the teevee. Sigh.

You know the drill: The uniforms featured highlighter colors and GFGS and generally looked like what some D3 school would wear . I'm fairly certain the following words have never been said before (at least not truthfully): You'd have been better off watching the Grammys.

Dreamleaks 1: Let's Play Hockey

This is the first of a series of stories I call Dreamleaks. A dreamleak comes, appropriately enough, from a dream I recently had, one memorable and weird enough to justify recording. I then attempt to make a semi-coherent narrative out of the dream logic at play. In this case, the originating dream came just last week and demanded my attention. I could even see a video game around the concept, but for now, it will have to to this tale, a little something I call Let's Play Hockey.

Aaron Jacobksy knew he should be excited. After all, this was the moment he dreamed of all his life. The years in high school and the minor league, the countless hours spent practicing or recovering from injuries instead of spending time with his friends, and most importantly, the absolute obsession with learning even the tiniest details about the sport. All of it would be worth it, because now, he was in the big leagues. In just a few minutes, he would be starting the first game of the first season of the 2006 season.
