Did you know Conan is public domain?

2011's Conan movie was miserable to say the least. Glimpses of awesome in a movie that looked as though different factions wanted it to be different things. Fit to dwell in the movie collections of people who don't think much about movies, and the ire of pretentious douchebags like myself. Yeah it kind of sucked....

But it's been PD since '06? Why hasn't an independent company jumped on this? "The Tower of the Elephant" could be done rather cheaply. Yag-Kosha exposits some but doesn't really need to move much. There's a giant spider, some Lions, and a sorcerer. No huge special effects, the cast would be tiny; rowdy tavern crowd, misc guards, kothian rogue, Taurus of Nemedia, the Sorcerer Yara, Conan Himself and Yag-Kosha. The landscape seems Mediterranean so it could be done somewhere in the southwest. The Spider, Yag-Kosha and Yara's death could all be done rather cheaply on CGI. I can make an uneducated guess that it could be done well for less than 30k.

Plenty of the Conan stories could be done cheaper. Some would need to be altered to be in movie form (The God in the Bowl), many could be strung together and there's story fragments from unfinished stories one could expand into a full story. Most of Conan's enemies are other warriors or animals. Monsters are uncommon but seem that much more epic because of it. There really is no reason a low budget indie film maker hasn't picked this up since then. Where've all the Roger Corman's gone?
