Senki Zesshou Symphogear G: In the Distance, That Day, When the Star Became Music-- Episode 3

AEROBLIP: In the latest episode of Senki Zesshou Symphogear G: In the Distance, That Day, When the Star Became Music , the story picks up after the first confrontation with Fine', the terrorist organization responsible for controlling the noise. Despite their demands of world domination, a week passes with no further incidents. Despite returning to normalcy (i.e. back to school), everyone is still on edge waiting for Maria and her gang to strike back. Going on the offensive, Hibiki, Tsubasa, and Chris raid what appeared to be Maria's hideout. However, they learn of two major obstacles: the backstabbing of Doctor Ver and the revelation of his new monster, something stronger than the Noise.

KEVO: One of my favorite parts of the episode is Tsubasa's manager being a total badass, beating up an entire room of guards, opening a safe, and looking at secret documents while on the phone with Genjuro. Overall, this was the first episode without an intense, crazy fight scene but there was still plenty of fun to go around.

AEROBLIP: The silliness in this episode is one of the major reasons why I love this series. For an episode all about slowing down the pace and setting up the story, the show did a fantastic job on making it entertaining. My favorite little scene was Chris' transformation sequence, when she does her little kiss-shot to the camera. Despite the grave nature of the show, Satelight does an excellent job on remembering how everyone loves the series' campiness.

The Symphogear staff pay homage to the Steam SaleKEVO: We get Chris's transformation scene this episode ("bang!") and it's as campy as hell. Her motif is some kind of death metal J-pop fusion, which dysfunctional to the point of hilarity. Her new fighting character song features a seiyuu with no singing talent cranking out lyrics like "GO TO HELL!" Anime of the century.

One of the best treats of the show is Chris in a schoolgirl uniform. I never liked her too much in the first season; her hair is stupid and she seems like she is constantly furious for no reason. She's slowly grown on me because she stopped bitching and much and shoots machine guns. Now that she's educating herself with a top quality education, I am proud of Chris and her life choices.

AEROBLIP: I'm glad the show is taking more time to flesh out Chris. She is essentially the show's only tsundere, which easily puts her in contention as "The Best Girl". Now that Tsubasa and Hibiki have temporarily taken back-seat, it's all about her time to shine.

However, I will admit that the story is my favorite part of the show. Although this episode was primarily one large information dump, I cannot deny that it had me glued to the screen. Maybe my expectations for the plot were ridiculously low to make this more enjoyable. Regardless, all these betrayals and secret motives have me wondering what Satelight might be planning. Senki Zesshou Symphogear: Meteroid-Falling, Burning, and Disappear Thenalways managed to top itself, and I hope the same happens again. This season can easily surpass the first one. There is potential. And there is much more Chris.
