has issued a with good and bad news. The good stuff is that Paul Cornell is going to write a special oversized comic coming out at the end of 2013, with Jimmy Broxton doing the art. (Bleeding Cool has an of Broxton; he's worked with Cornell before, on DC Comics miniseries "Knight and Squire".) Blurb: "In this special one-shot story, a strange force flings the TARDIS and the Doctor into our own universe! Once here, the Doctor encounters a 10-year-old girl who happens to be a huge fan of the Doctor Who TV show. The Doctor grapples with being a fictional character as well as and a monster lurking at the girl's school on the way to coming face-to-face with the actor who portrays him, MATT SMITH!" MTV Geek has a short clip of Paul Cornell discussing his upcoming comic ; briefly, he's very excited about being able to combine comics and Doctor Who and plans to include an amusing Spider-Man in-joke.



The bad news is that IDW won'tbe doing any more DW comics after the end of the year. Chris Ryall, the IDW Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief, commented that "We've been extremely proud to be the American home to new Doctor Who comics these last six years...We feel like we've said a great many things with our comics--so it now feels like a good time to let Doctor Who comics regenerate along with the coming new Doctor on the TV series." There's a note at the end of the press release that BBC Worldwide will have more to say about their "plans for 2014 in the next coming weeks", but how long that will take goodness knows. So it's open season on the speculation as to who might want the license next; Marvel, Boom!, perhaps nobody at all...we'll have to wait and see. No more comics means no money from licensing DW to comics companies, though, so at a guess BBC Worldwide will want a replacement lined up fairly quickly.
