The Summer Season of Anime

The summer season of anime this year is really incredible. With such a large fanbase, such powerful series, and addicting shows it is important to know what to watch now, what to watch later, and how to find legal ways to watch them! Today I'll be reviewing two incredibly popular and very different series, Attack on Titan and Free! Iwatobi Swim Club, as well as one upcoming hit - Blood Lad.

Attack on Titan, or Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, is THE hit anime of the year. It is quite simply the most original anime I have ever seen, though it is based on the manga series by Hajime Isayama which was written first.

From Crunchyroll: "Many years ago, the last remnants of humanity were forced to retreat behind the towering walls of a fortified city to escape the massive, man-eating Titans that roamed the land outside their fortress." The country's military is split up into 3 factions: 1 guards the interior, 1 guards the walls, and the other scouts outside the walls, in Titan territory. Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Armour join the military and are trained to kill Titans - they face them head on, lose their friends, fight for their lives and the fate of the human race. It is brutal, gory, intense, dramatic, bloody, awful, and amazing all at the same time.

Free is the hottest anime of the summer season. It's about a group of boys who used to be on a swim team together as kids, and now they make a swim team at their new high school. Watch the boys, all buff guys with girly names, as they try their hardest to get along, make the swim club successful, and have fun.

The characters are cute and quirky, the music is epic and fun, and the fanservice is simply mind-boggling. Most popular anime have girls in miniskirts and skimpy uniforms - well Free! has guys in tight swimsuits with rock-hard abs and incredible triceps. You'll fall in love with them so fast. WATCH FREE! From Viz Media: "Staz is one of the toughest vampires in the demon world. But unlike his ancestors, he finds being a vampire to be a serious pain and prefers to spend his time watching anime and playing video games instead. When a Japanese girl named Fuyumi wanders into his territory, Staz cannot hide his excitement at finally meeting a living human from his favorite culture. Unfortunately, Fuyumi dies after being swallowed by a monster, leaving her bare soul behind. Staz vows to Fuyumi that he will bring her back to life by any bloody means necessary."

Blood Lad is my new favorite manga, as you may have noticed in my review of it a few weeks ago. I'm so excited for the anime, and I think it is doing a great job of adapting the manga. The voice actors are doing great work, the animators are bringing the characters and especially the settings to life, and I can't wait for more!
