Elizabeth Smart's kidnapper is beaten by inmate in prison

Brian David Mitchell, 59 year-old, kidnapped 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart in the early hours of June 5, 2002. As the victim revealed the extent of sexual abuse she had endured, the world was shocked and infuriated. I still remember where I was when the news broke that Elizabeth Smart had been found and reunited with her family.

This monster was convicted of kidnapping and sexual assault and was sentenced to serve life in prison in May 2011. It is reported that Mitchell was beaten by a fellow inmate in prison. Inmates are known to be intolerant of child molesters and rapists, so pedophiles are usually kept away from other inmates even though they don't deserve to be protected. I believe in Karma, and I think this was a great example because he is getting what he deserves. He is a mentally ill but it doesn't justify the fact that Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped from her home at knife point.

I truly believe that this man is insane, otherwise I don't know how he could have committed such inhuman acts against a child. Smart described the brutal sexual assaults she had endured three to four times a day throughout her captivity. She was forced to take drugs and alcohol. This delusional criminal did a marriage ceremony so that Smart would be his second wife.

Elizabeth Smart is a courageous woman. She had endured the intolerable cruelty, and during the trial, she testified about details of her horrifying abduction ordeal. Mitchell took her and his wife to San Diego, and Smart knew that no one would notice her in San Diego, so She used Mitchell's radical religious beliefs to trick him into bringing her back to Utah from San Diego. What a brave intelligent woman she is..

Also I cannot imagine what her parents are going through. It is a real nightmare for any parents to have their own child go through brutal sexual assaults.

I remember seeing her graciously answering questions on news channels, and I don't even know where the courage and strength were coming from. She is a true survivor, and has inspired millions of people including victims of sexual crimes around the world. She didn't let her past stop her from moving on with her life and got married to a boyfriend of one year whom she met in a missionary trip. I wish her eternal happiness that she deserves..
