Goodbyes Are Rarely Forever

Michael Trevino Waves Goodbye To "The Vampire Diaries" But Says Hello To "The Originals"

It was a tear-filled episode for fans of , as Michael Trevino's character "Tyler" officially broke up with Caroline (played by Candice Accola) in Episode 5 05 "Monster's Ball." But as we've learned over the seasons, goodbyes are never final, and this is certainly the case for Trevino, who is headed to spin-off series .confirms what most of us already suspected - that he'd be the first character from TVD to head to New Orleans. The CW hasn't confirmed the exact date of Tyler's arrival on The Originals, but Trevino promises it'll be "sometime soon." As we learned in the latest episode, Tyler is solely focussed on making Klaus' (Joseph Morgan) life as miserable as he can. What better way to do that than go to New Orleans, where Klaus is currently trying to reclaim his throne from prodigy Marcel?

Still, just because we're happy Trevino (and his character) will be sticking around, doesn't mean it's been easy for him to leave the show that's been his home for over 4 seasons. Trevino says the break-up scene was "really tough" on he and Accola, as usually the scenes where Tyler and Caroline go their separate ways only one of them is emotional. He says "On this one, both of us were emotional. There were a few more takes than how it regularly goes between Candice and I." Vampire Diaries fans have been emotional themselves over this turn-of-events, lashing out on Twitter in regards to Tyler's swift departure from season 5. Trevino has tried to reassure them by saying he believes "Tyler will make it good once he shows up to The OriginalsI think everybody will be happy with Tyler's reasoning when they see what he's been up to and what he has planned." Let's hope so Trevino!

So what about Tyler's vendetta against Klaus? It's probably been a long time coming, especially when we think of the shit-fest Klaus put his first successful hybrid through. Trevino recognises the tumultuous dealings Tyler has had with Klaus and how it's "always a scary feeling" but perhaps Tyler is counting on Klaus' ego to get the best of him? "You've got to think at this point, because Klaus is so powerful, that he kinda maybe deep down inside likes Tyler and likes messing around with him because it gives him something to do," says Trevino. That might be the case, but Klaus does have his hands full protecting damsels in distress, managing his Baby Mama and executing his plan for Quarter domination. Well, however Klaus reacts to Tyler's appearance, it's certainly going to prove interesting.
