A Rundown of the People's Choice Awards Nominations 2014

The People's Choice Awards is celebrating its 40th year in 2014, and the voting has already started. Ready to air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on 8January 2014, the People's Choice is the only film and TV awards show where the viewers determine the winners.

There are a multitude of categories - including 15 new ones - in which fans can levy their vote for their favourite show, musician or actor. These include Favourite Reboot, Favourite Young Adult Movie, Favourite Remix and Favourite Streaming Show. Votes can be made on the People's Choice website, through Facebook or even via Twitter.

NOTABLE NOMINATIONS

Family movies have a strong following in the People's Choice awards, with heavyweight nominees Monsters University and Despicable Me 2 both featuring in several categories. They are both up against hot grown-up favourites Iron Man 3 and the new Star Trek Into Darkness film for the title of Favourite Movie. These latter two films also have several nominations under their belt, including Favourite Movie Duo and Favourite Action Movie.

The TV nominations span all genres of TV shows, from comedies to dramas and even talk shows. The whole Glee thing might seem a bit passnow, but the hit series scored the most nominations of all, with a staggering eight notched up across a variety of categories. Also worth noting are Grey's Anatomy and The Big Bang Theory, which scored five nominations apiece.

In the musical sphere, new band Imagine Dragons have secured nominations in several categories including favourite Breakout Artist, Favourite Alternative Band, Favourite Band and Favourite Song. Justin Timberlake has enjoyed several nominations too, as has the notorious Robin Thicke and his fellow twerker and former Disney starlet, Miley Cyrus. Katy Perry scored the most nominations though, with a total of five for her single 'Roar' with its accompanying video and also her album.

LIKELY WINNERS?

With the end results in the hands of the voters, it can be hard to pick a potential winner, especially with such strong competition in every category. However, we can make some predictions based on the sheer number of nominations and the superb fans and followings some of the nominees have:

* Katy Perry: with a massive Twitterati base and a very strong chance with her five category nominations, Perry stands a good chance of winning at least one award. Most likely for her song 'Roar' and best music video for the same.

* Robin Williams: Back in 1979, Williams won in the Favourite Actor category for Mork & Mindy, and has now been nominated in the same category for The Crazy Ones. He may or may not scoop the prize again, but it would be great if he did.

* : In the Premium Cable TV Show category, there are few shows, even today, with more of a loyal and obsessive following than HBO's Game of Thrones. The show has no less than three nominations in total, including Emilia Clarke for Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress and Jaime Lanniester for Favourite TV Anti-Hero.

* Breaking Bad: The enormous success and popularity of this show will almost certainly propel it to the top of the crop in the TV Shows We Miss the Most category, despite the strong competition.

Also worth keeping an eye out for are Britney Spears, Fall Out Boy, Johnny Depp and Scarlett Johansson, who have all made pretty strong comebacks and/or career choices over the last couple of years and secured a raft of loyal fans in the process - all of who will no doubt be voting.

You can vote now - as many times as you like - to ensure your favourite gets the award you think they deserve.
