'Addams Family' Animated Flick in the Works: Happy Halloween!

Just in time for All Hallow's Eve, has announced that MGM is working on a feature-length animated film adaptation of CHARLES ADDAMS' "altogether ooky" comic strip: The Addams Family.

The studio is in final negotiations with independent media company BERMANBRAUN to make the movie. Corpse Bride and Monster House screenwriter PAMELA PETTLER will pen the script, and Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi will executive produce. Information regarding director, voice cast, and release date is currently unavailable.

The Addams Family ran as a comic strip for 50 years (1938-1988) and appeared in numerous cartoons and animated specials. The family is probably best known for the popular live action TV series that ran from 1964 to 1966 starring JOHN ASTIN, and BARRY SONNENFELD's films: The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) starring the late RAUL JULIA. These were followed after Julia's untimely death by the straight to video sequel Addams Family Reunion (1998) starring TIM CURRY.

I'm looking forward to Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Fester, Mamma, Lurch, Thing, and Cousin It's return to the realm of animation .Here's hoping they'll stay true to the classic, minimalist look of the comic strip: There are more than enough slick, overproduced, CG spectacles out there.
