It'a been a helluva week for Betsy Taylor. First, she loses her job. Then, to top things off, she's killed in a car accident. But what really bites (besides waking up in the morgue dressed in a pink suit and cheap shoes courtesy of her stepmother) is that she can't seem to stay dead. Every night she rises with a horrible craving for blood. She's not taking too well to a liquid diet.
Worst of all, her new friends have the ridiculous idea that Betsy is the prophesied vampire queen, and they want her help in overthrowing the most obnoxious, power-hungry vampire in five centuries - a badly dressed Bela Lugosi wannabe, natch.
Frankly, Betsy couldn't care less about vamp politics, but they have a powerful weapon of persuasion: designer shoes. How can any self-respecting girl say now? But a collection of Ferragamos isn't the only temptation for Betsy. It's just a lot safer than the scrumptious Sinclair - a seductive bloodsucker whose sexy gaze seems as dangerous as a stake through the heart...
Hello, Fellow Readers! Today's vampire read is set to attack your funny bone!
Betsy has had the week of her life - or rather unlife. After a freak accident, Betsy wakes up at the local morgue and discovers she is fact a vampire. But not any regular vampire. She's able to walk into a church, resist the sun's rays, dogs easily fall under her spell, and she can control her thirst for blood.
This is surely a surprise, though her coming had been prophesized for ages and the rest of the vampires in town are convinced she's the Queen they've all been waiting for. But not everything is peaches and cream. Nostro, the ruthless leader of the vampires will stop at nothing to end Betsy's undead life as she is a threat to his rule.
Betsy for her part is reluctant to wade in the vampire political waters as she's got more than enough problems of her own: getting back her designer shoes her stepmonster stole from her after her death. It seems Betsy doesn't stand a chance against Nostro.
Luckily for Betsy, she's got Eric Sinclair by her side. Eric is a powerful vampire who is tired of being under Nostro's rule and can't wait to depose him of power. Now if only he could get Betsy in line and convince her to free his people. Armed with the latest high heel shoe line, he hopes he'll get Betsy to heel. Or should he just seduce her? Maybe it wasn't a good idea for her to see him in a threesome. Oh well.
What's to become of the vampire race?Undead and Unwed was a very humorous read. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was because it features some of biggest writing pet peeves. Writing a character's thoughts in parentheses (Oh no!) and no explicit sex (are you serious right now?) really knocked off a few kisses.
But the humor in the book really saved it for me and I just had to know what was going to happen. *le sigh* Too bad it ends in a cliffie. LOL I just can't win!
Still, I'm intrigued to read on to book two as it's one heck of a cliffie. I just hope it keeps a smile on my face and gives me some laugh out loud moments like book one did.
Undead and Unwed features:
* paranormal romance
* sexual situations
* alpha male
* m nage (not explicit)
