Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week news, images and celebrities: Target & Mark Spicoluk

Tis the season of holiday glee or at least it was on the runway ofthis past . A newbie to the Toronto scene, the American retailer shook things up with an interactive runway show that acted as a jolly hop forward into the festive season -- complete with falling snowflakes.

Opting out of Fashion Week's spring/summer mandate, TARGET models cruised down the runway in cozy fireplace-ready ensembles, playfully exchanging high-fives as they passed one another, while children -- bundled up and under tuques -- skipped down the runway beside them. Outfits of black and white stripes, as well as spots, marked up the runway; a pleasant contrast beside looks of royal blue, teal and burgundy. Holiday cocktail attire, too, was well accounted for, and came in the form of voluminous leather and lace skirts worn with holiday sweaters for women, while male models showed off velour blazers worn overtop turtleneck sweaters, in modern-dad-style.

Opening and closing the runway was Maybelline spokesmodel, Erin Wasson, making her first runway appearance in Canada. But, drawing even more attention than the beautiful Wasson was the iconic Target bull terrier -- a four-legged friend our guest for the evening was particular fond of.

Sitting beside us before the snowy runway that night was MARK SPICOLUK, TV personality and music mogul. Boasting several claims to fame, SPICOLUK'S professional credits include playing bass for Closet Monster and Avril Lavigne; acting as a judge on music-geared reality TV series, such as YTV's The Next Star, as well as MuchMusic's disBAND; founding the independent punk-rock record label ; and most recently, co-founding , an entertainment business inclusive of music production and creative services. Juggling writing, producing and the occasional televised judge gig, leaves SPICOLUK little leisure time, lucky for us, he found room in his schedule to come hangout for a show at Fashion Week.

Granted, he wasn't so sure about TARGET CANADA's place at the tents (at one point in the evening he tweeted, "When is the Walmart fashion show?"), but Spicoluk's candor made for one of our most interesting interviews of the week. Below, we talk personal style and TARGET with MARK SPICOLUK.

RATE THE IMPORTANT OF FASHION IN YOUR LIFE.

I would say probably a five - right in the middle. Meaning that I have some standards that I apply to myself that I won't leave the house without, but very few of them I think have to do with fashion. It's just that I need to feel comfortable with what I wear, I need to feel like I am pushing my own envelope a little bit. It has very little to do with what's going on in the world, but what's going on with myself and I am a vegan, so it needs to be cruelty-free.

BASED ON WHAT YOU'VE SEEN TONIGHT, WHAT DO YOU PREDICT TO BE THE BIGGEST TREND TO HIT THE STREETS THIS WINTER SEASON?

I am not really a fashion guy; I know nothing about the fashion world or Toronto Fashion Week or anything to do with any of this. Just speaking from an outside opinion I am not sure at all from this fashion show -- being that it was a Target fashion show -- what to expect except maybe that the fashion for the common man is going to be a lot of plain tuques and layers. Looks like maybe some plaids, a pea coat and a couple of colorful tuques (laughing). I don't know I kind of feel like, as I was saying to you, it's like going to a food festival and eating McDonalds. You know what I mean? But, I bet McDonalds would hire all the right chefs I don't know I have no business commenting on that whatsoever, but I am commenting on it I don't know why Target is here.

DO YOU THINK YOU'LL INCORPORATE THIS TREND INTO YOUR OWN WAREDROBE?

You know what, I buy my black tuques from department stores and I wear a black tuque religious in the wintertime, so for sure!I could see a pea coat that I would love to get.

ARE YOU MORE A TREND PERSON OR A STAPLES PERSON?

I am a staples person. My own staples, but again I just kind of go by if I like it, not necessarily other people. I fell in love with Tom's shoes, and so I always wear Tom's shoes. I fell in love with them cause they are so damn comfortable, the good cause is a total bonus! I don't know I find my own staples and live by them. I mean, fuck, I have had this haircut for far too long, but I am just like I don't want to change it, I like it. Anyways

WHAT IS THE MOST EXTRAVAGANT PIECE IN YOUR CLOSET AND WHAT IS THE MOST COZY?

I have a really, really nice Nixon watch that I love that I wear to fundraisers and shit didn't wear it [today]. Comfortable? I have the world's largest hoodie collection, cause I just keep collecting hoodies everywhere I go. I also have a pretty large sweat pant collection cause I wear them as soon as I walk in the door of my house and sometimes out in public. People look at me funny, and I am just like fuck it, I am comfortable but I try to make it work.

IF YOU COULD TAKE ONE PIECE FROM THE RUNWAY HOME WITH YOU, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

The sweet little dog. I would take him home with me, and I would wash that little target off of his eye, and I would let him meet my dog and they would be the best of friends. That or maybe the girl in the green tuque.

WHAT CELEBRITY, DEAD OR ALIVE, WOULD YOU HAVE LIKED TO HAVE WATCHED THE SHOW WITH TONIGHT?

Bill Murray. He would have been just as confused at the Target-thing as me I think, and we would have had a lot of fun [talking] about it. Or maybe I would like to hangout with Genghis Khan, as long as he wouldn't fuck me up or Audrey Hepburn because she is frickin adorable, and I am sure that she would love to be in a setting like this.

WHAT SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE AS THE RUNWAY SOUNDTRACK TO THIS COLLECTION?

Florri. She's a model I think in the U.K., and she has this song that I fucking love called "." It's my all-time-favorite song it has this energy to it. Not a lot of people know it, and she never had a song after that that was nearly as good. But, if I was to ever put something like this together, I would totally incorporate that song.

WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON TO IMPRESS AT FASHION WEEK?

Your mom cause moms love hearing that you go to stuff like this: "Oh, that's so cool you went to a fashion show." Other than that, nobody at least [not] for me.

WHAT WAS THE SINGLE ELEMENT ABOUT THIS FASHION WEEK EXPERIENCE THAT IMPRESSED YOU MOST, ON OR OFF THE RUNWAY?

I give it to whoever put the Target show together, they pushed a lot of boundaries from any experience I have had at Fashion Week before. It looked like they were trying to break a few rules, maybe be a little bit left of center. They made it snow! That was really cool. I think just in general how far these fashion shows have come is awesome. I don't know, but fashion shows were probably just people walking down a runway before, and now it's like lights and music and snow and bright colours and vibe. That creative experience is why I go to other creative worlds coming from music, and am like, "Wow, they are really pushing the envelope there too."
