Pok mon: The Origin // First Impressions

Starting to feel like we're back to 1996 (or 1998 outside of Japan), doesn't it?

Pok mon: The Origin is a 4-episode special by Production I.G, XEBEC, and Oriental Light and Magic, which is an adaptation of the Game Boy game Pok mon Red and Blue (Green in Japan) and, by extension, the Game Boy Advance remakes Pok mon FireRed and LeafGreen. The story is set in a world where creatures known as Pocket Monsters, or Pok mon for short, co-exist alongside humans. Some people train them, other keep them as pets. At the age of 10, children can begin their quest to train Pok mon. Our protagonist, Red, lives in Pallet Town, where Professor Oak, who studies Pok mon, gives to starting trainers one of three Pok mon: The Grass-type Bulbasaur, the Fire-type Charmander, or the Water-type Squirtle. Red chooses Charmander, while Red's rival and Professor Oak's grandson, Green (known as Blue outside Japan) chooses Squirtle. They will travel across the land, searching far and wide to complete the Pok dex, as Professor Oak once dreamed of.

First episode in, quite exciting. This is probably the anime fans of Pok mon dreamed of. Unlike the anime, which plays by its own rules, this one does battles more like the games. A good start to something that could be something cool. Although it was a bad idea for Red to pick Charmander. He's gonna have a bad time getting through the game with that.
