People think planning a wedding is stressful, but does anyone think about what a person proposing marriage is going through? My husband of 15 years was one of those men who felt overwhelmed by the possibilities and the chance that he may not be able to create a 'magical moment', and so he proposed in a spur-of-the-moment manner that turned out to be 'nice', but a little bit 'ho-hum'. Later, he proposed again (two years ago) with a new ring, using one of the methods described in this book, which brought tears to my eyes.

"Supermom Breaks a Nail" - Supermom and her trials in parenting (satire)

I wake to a sharp pain and Space Commander Joe declaring me an intruder. I sit bolt upright in bed. I turn to see the Space Commander glaring at me from behind a scratched helmet visor. A knot on my forehead forms. My lips curl back to expose most of my gums. "Logan!" I growl to the tussle-haired gremlin behind the action figure.

"Did that hurt, Mom?"

"Yes!" I hiss.

"Huh." He says, quizzically looking at his plastic doll -- "Joe didn't even break. He's SUPER STRONG!" -- and buzzes out of the room, making whooshing space commander sounds.

I sit in ninth-grade English, a student in the class of 1970. Twelve minutes, forty-one seconds until the bell rings. I'd be bored to death if my gut wasn't killing me. The mystery loaf they served for lunch went down like a crown of thorns. A burning pain shoots across my belly. My arm jerks, up goes my hand.

Mrs. Raymond, of the straw hair and skinny arms, sits behind her big wooden desk in front of the class. "Yes, Cora Rose?"

In 2005, retired herbalist Dr. Sebi had reached the age of 72, but I noticed the vitality of a 5-year-old at his kindergarten show and tell. On one of our daily rides around the town of La Ceiba, Honduras, he suddenly behaved in the most incredible way. I watched him leap from his truck, leave it idling in traffic, and dash his limber legs to an open field to inspect a plant that caught his eye. He examined his diamond-in-the-rough in what appeared to be widespread patches of weeds. Drivers in traffic must have been familiar with his hyperactivity. No car or truck horns blew at Dr. Sebi's sitting vehicle and passengers in waiting.

This small tome is intended to vindicate Grigory Efimovitch Rasputin (born approximately 1868; died 1916), spiritual advisor to the last Tsar and Tsarina of Russia. It means to debunk all of the outrageous rumors perpetrated by a bigoted, small-minded, self-absorbed society. If you are looking for a list his debauchery, sins, or crimes, you won't find them here, for there exists no evidence of those, other than rumors. If you're seeking the gory description of his brutal murder, you won't find it here. And if you want to establish a link between Rasputin and the fall of the Romanov Empire, you won't find any, because there is none.

"Rasputin and The Jews: A Reversal of History"

Main character: Grigori Efimovitch Rasputin

This book details how the antisemitic Russian aristocracy vilified Rasputin for advocating equal rights for the oppressed Jews.

"A new day, dawning over aged rooftops" . . . that is how the visual image of the sun rise translated into poetry in my head as I went to the edge of the banister on the rooftop patio of my apartment complex, coffee in hand. But what was the emotion connected to it that triggered that most loquacious and quixotic part of my brain? I have come to learn that emotions are often a poor indicator of reality. As a child I used to think I hated going to school and that people didn't like me; when in reality, . . .

The nudge in the ribs was short of a kick, but not by much. Christopher Tyburn came awake abruptly, his right hand reaching for his absent sword even before his gray eyes snapped open, sweeping his dim surroundings. Four years of mornings in Flanders had bred that habit into his very bones.

Tyburn was wrapped in a frayed woolen blanket, secure under the leafy vault of a large shadowy oak tree that was barely palpable in the pre-dawn gloom. A heavy wooden wagon stood hard by the spreading tree. A horse gave a quiet nicker from the stable in the inn yard.

Racer, a Hamster's Tale

My pen name is J. S. King

It's a farce and satire for grown-up kids.

Google it to find it on my blog.

Here are the first hundred words:

Once upon a time, in a green and beautiful land, there lived an evil scientist and he had a pet hamster. His name was Racer. The hamster, that is. Not that it's important, just in case you wanted to know.

Chapter 1

Racer ran round and round, round and round, round and round, flying down the pathway to heaven. At least, that's the way he saw it. To anyone else it looked like a hamster's exercise wheel, but to Racer it was his outlet for stress. It's not easy being the beloved pet of a mad scientist.

His arm cradled her shoulder in a bear-hug position. His feeble legs flailed about, but his hands managed just fine in finding security at the grasp of her breasts.

Karen huffed at the weight of his weak, wrinkled body against her small frame. "Mr. Hamilton, take your hands off my breasts, sir."

"What?" He asked. His voice was raspy. He looked at her with a blank expression.
