Rebecca Ethington Interview & Giveaway

WHEN DID YOU START WRITING?

Um, the day I was born. I actually can't remember a time I wasn't writing, reading, or performing. I would write lots of short stories or what is now called fan fiction when I was younger. I had this whole elaborate expansion story of Peter Pan that I wrote when I was in second grade. I have mostly been a closet writer though, I didn't really share a lot of my stuff, or even letting people know I was writing. Until Kiss of Fire, I guess I should have been a bit more open about that.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO PUBLISH YOUR FIRST BOOK?I actually wrote Kiss of Fire for my Grandfathers birthday and published on a bet. I'm never one to back out on a bet.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO WRITE?Family. I always have someone specific in mind when I write my stories, I want to impress them, and that's what keep me going.

DO YOU EVER FEEL FRUSTRATED WITH YOUR WORK?Yes, all the time. There is an extraordinary amount of pressure on writers to deliver quality and work - and quickly. Its probably a good thing I write fast or I would be curled up crying in the corner most of the time lol

HOW DO YOU GET OVER WRITER'S BLOCK?I do writing sprints with my friends, they are basically contests to see who can write the most in a specified amount of time. There is also an app called write or die which is a lifesaver for me.

THERE'S A LOT OF DISTRACTIONS AROUND, ESPECIALLY WITH SOCIAL MEDIA, HOW DO YOU BLOCK IT ALL OUT AND WRITE?

My husband turns off the router ever morning. I am not kidding. I have an old crappy phone with no internet and once he turns that router off it's like I am in 1995.

WHAT'S SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW?

I collect Rainbow Brite dolls, the vintage ones from the 80s - On a side note I think I die a little every time I refer to the 80s as vintage.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD TO REWRITE PORTIONS OF A BOOK BECAUSE THE CHARACTERS DECIDED TO BE SOMEONE ELSE THAN YOU INTENDED?

Yes, and it drives me batty. I swear, those people should just do what I tell them too.

DID YOU EVER THINK YOU'D BE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR?

Ha! No!

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON CURRENTLY?

I am currently working on book four of the Imdalind Series - Soul of Flame, due out December 2nd 2013. As well as book Five in the Imdalind Series, Dawn of Ash, due out January 2014.

DO YOU EVER WRITE CHARACTERS YOU HATE?

Yes, but I am not going to tell you who I hate because I would probably get lynched lol

WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA FOR YOUR BOOKS?

Music mostly. The entire idea for Through Glass came from the song 'Little Talks' by Of Monsters and Men

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE GENRE TO WRITE?

This is a hard question for me because I don't really write in one specific genre. I kind of toe the line between many. The Imdalind Series is a mix of YA/ NA/ Paranormal/ Urban/ Fantasy/ Romance/ Suspense Through Glass is a conglomerate of YA/ NA/ Paranormal/ Urban/ Dystopian/ Post-Apocalyptic/ Romance/ Horror I guess that's one of the things that make me unique.

IS THERE A TYPE OF GENRE YOU REFUSE TO WRITE?

Erotica - and as hot and steamy as my kissing scenes may be, I will always shut the door before anything else happens.

DO YOU PREFER YOUR BOOKS IN PRINT OR E-BOOK FORMAT?

E-book - I am poor like that.

HUMOR ME, BECAUSE THIS IS MY FAVORITE (MYTHICAL) ANIMAL: WOULD YOU EVER CONSIDER PUTTING A PLATYPIRE IN ONE OF YOUR BOOKS?

Probably, mostly because I am not exactly sure what that is lol
