Be Kind to Animals Week

As I was informed by my Tuesdaythis week is 'Be Kind to Animals Week'.



I am a huge HUGE animal person, I have always grown up with my own pets, have formed fantastic bonds with all my friends pets and have helped as many animals as possible.




Since I love animals so much I am going to make a few posts on this subject, however I just wanted to make a short post about my current animal family members.



I would like you all to meet Cookie boy my budgie and Fonzie puppy our black Labrador.



In 2007, we lost our German Shepard Benji, this hit me hard as I was exactly half way through my uni course (had completed 3 semesters with 3 more to go) and we had had Benj since my first year of primary school.



It may sound harsh/cruel/disrespectful but we waited just over a month to get a new dog. It was the longest we had ever gone without a pet, especially a dog, and there was just a part of us that was longing for a canine friend.



We adopted Fonzie on the 26/08/2007, while my father and I were shopping for my birthday gifts, but don't be mistaken, he is 100% the family dog.



He is a crazy little thing, who loves plastic bottles and tries to curl up in your lap like a cat. He hates the water and is scared of the dark.



His name definitely suits him though, he is a little rebel with the kindest heart.



While Fonzie may be the family dog, Cookie boy is MY bird. Though he is still a part of the whole family.



Cookie is my first official pet, one that is not the entire family's.



I adopted him, I believe, 13th of February 2012.



We have had two budgies before so I knew I couldn't/didn't want one exactly like Bluey (obviously a blue budgie) or Tweety (a bright yellow budgie), so when I saw this almost white with grey flecks little budgie I knew that was the one.



It helped that when the guy got him out to let me have a look he ran straight for the open front door. He had a spunk that was perfect.



I had recently become addicted to Torchwood and before getting Cookie had decided I would name my bird Myfanwy, however that didn't suit him.



It was while S was driving us back to my place and we were throwing around names (all names ending with an ie sound to fit in with every pet we have owned) that cookie popped into my mind. It is a nickname of mine (from Cookie Monster - which I collect) and it suited him perfectly with the white and grey flecks. Even though now he has turned more yellow in colour.



He loves music (we have MTV on for him) especially Bon Jovi, Kylie Minogue, Michael Jackson, Abba and Billy Joel, he loves dancing, seed bells and can say a few words (all our names and due to a few too many friends episodes 'how you doin'). He is scared of Gonzo from the muppets and HATES/is terrified of the X Files.



He is also the ONLY bird I know that has his own doll. Which is the creepiest doll but he talks to 'her' all the time.



Okay I will leave it at that tomorrow, will have a couple more posts before the end of the week.
