Peyton, Eli Glad To Be Getting Manning Bowl Iii Out Of Way

GIANTS' ELI MANNING SETS SIGHTS ON PLAYING HOME-FIELD SUPER BOWL

The Broncos and Giants will play again in 2017, a year after Manning's five-year contract with the Broncos expires and when he would be 41. Brad Penner, USA TODAY Sports Last Slide Next Slide Peyton's Indianapolis Colts won each of the first two Manning Bowls, 26-21 in 2006 and 38-14 in 2010. The other possibility, of course, is the one that has existed since Eli joined Peyton in the NFL in 2004 that someday Peyton's team would win the AFC and Eli's the NFC and they would meet in the Super Bowl. In the nine years both brothers have been in the NFL, a Manning has appeared in four Super Bowls Peyton with the Colts in 2007 and 2010 and Eli with the Giants in 2008 and 2012 but never at the same time. A chance to meet in the Super Bowl in their hometown of New Orleans last season was spoiled. The Giants missed the playoffs, and the Broncos were ousted from the postseason in an upset by the Baltimore Ravens.

ELI MANNING DUE FOR A BIG PERFORMANCE VS. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

On his morning commute from Hoboken, N.J., to New York Giants headquarters, Eli Manning passes the place he's motivated to be Feb. 2, 2014: MetLife Stadium, his home field and site of Super Bowl XLVIII. Manning is the 32-year-old face of his flagship franchise, and the two-time Super Bowl MVP radiates his team's resolve for the upcoming season. After what he called "a frustrating" meltdown last year when the Giants lost five of their final eight games to miss the playoffs, Manning is driven to lead them to their fifth Super Bowl victory. "Right now, I have two Super Bowls. I want to get three.

FANTASY FOOTBALL ROUNDTABLE: TIME TO BENCH ELI AND LOOK TO RIVERS?

If New York wants to turn their season around, Eli Manning must remind us why hes a two time Super Bowl MVP. Manning has been too careless with the ball in 2013, resulting in a touchdown to interception ratio of 6-9, or 2-3. In New Yorks last 25 drives, theyve managed to put points on the board only once! Good thing theyre going against an Eagles defense that hasnt picked off a ball since Week 1 against the Washington Redskins . The Eagles defense ranks 31st in passing yards allowed per game, and theyve yet to hold an opponent under 26 points this season. Eli Manning and the Giants offense will look much better this week against a poor Eagles secondary. The Eagles switched to a 3-4 defensive scheme this year. It looks like theyre having significant troubles with it, especially since some players are not in their accustom positions.

KEIDEL: THE BOOK OF ELI, WRITTEN BY PEYTON

Manuel, Nick Foles and Geno Smith. You just kind of watch each play and try to see if you could have made a better decision or a better throw or what your options were, Manning said. I feel like Im doing some good things and there are always things you can improve on and get better. Weve just got to find a way to be more consistent and just keep grinding. Weve just got to get in good situations and make sure no matter what, were making smart decisions, trying to just find completions, get it into the flat or get it to the back. Youre just trying to find ways to get positive yardage. The Giants will try to avoid their first 0-5 start since 1987 and first in a season that didnt include strike replacement games since 1979 on Sunday when they face the Eagles at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. This is Elis second career four-game losing streak. Two years ago, the Giants were 6-2, lost four straight to fall to 6-6, barely got into the playoffs at 9-7, then beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

SUNDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK: PEYTON MANNING UNSTOPPABLE WHILE ELI STRUGGLES TO WIN

Were proud of Peyton. Just kind of a balance there. Peyton has 16 TDs, 0 INTs, a QB rating of 138.0 and the Broncos are averaging 45 points per game they will shatter the league scoring record by 127 points if they keep up this pace and at the age of 37, he is playing at the highest level of his career. Projected over 16 games, Manning will finish with 64 TDs and no INTs. Im going out on a limb here and predicting that is not going to happen. RELATED: VACCHIANO: IT'S THE FOURTH QUARTER, ELI! Little brother is struggling with six TDs, nine INTs and a quarterback rating of 69.1, better than only one other QB who has started his teams first four games Geno Smith. If the Broncos beat the Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday, it helps both the Manning boys. Peyton would go to 5-0 and be assured of having no worse than a share of the AFC West lead if the Chiefs beat the Titans.

ELI MANNING ON TRACK FOR WORST SEASON EVER

Turns out I was right (he said oh so modestly). Peyton is making all evolutions and revolutions moot with his monster campaign. ESPN ran a pastoral, documentary on the Mannings, a campy montage of memories and grainy, fractured footage of footballs Cosby Kids. It was hardly Woodward & Bernstein. But what other kind of homage is there? Especially for Americas first family of football? Old man Archie suffered a brutal, bruising career in New Orleans, before a freckling of fans with paper bags stuffed over their heads. Now hes getting payback through his offspring on offense. Imagine two boys, two empires, and three rings and counting.

or even the Green Bay defense). A lot of owners overlook the fact that players on a bye remain free agents up until the Monday night kickoff. You might have a better chance of landing them there than in the waiver process. In short, if you're serious about outsmarting your fellow owners in an attempt to make the playoffs (and we're sure you are), perhaps its prudent not to leave any options unexplored. 4. Time to lighten things up.
