HALLOWEEN

Seaport Village's Halloween Bash on the Bay

OCT. 26. This third annual celebration invites little monsters, pirates, witches and superheroes out to the village for an afternoon of fall festivities, including photos with a living scarecrow, a costume contest for kids and pets, live music and games. The costume contest will award prizes for the best superhero, scariest, prettiest, family and pet costumes. West Harbor Drive at Pacific Highway, San Diego. 619.235.4014.



BOOmont Park Fall Festival and Haunt

OCT. 26-27. Trick-or-treat for candy at Belmont Park's various shops and retailers, and get lost in BOOmont Manor, a kid-friendly haunted maze from the creators of the Haunted Hotel. There is even a zombie twist on Belmont's classic laser tag arcade. Also pick the perfect jack-o-lantern worthy pumpkin at the pumpkin patch. 5 p.m. Belmont Park, 3146 Mission Blvd., Mission Bay. 858.228.9283.



Balboa Park Halloween Family Day

Oct. 26. Bring the family to San Diego's urban cultural center for a spooktacular array of hands-on activities, crafts, costume parades, tours and storytelling. Among the highlights of this year's park-wide Halloween Family Day is a doggie costume parade and contest in the Spanish Village Art Center, spooky storytelling and mask-making at the Timken Museum of Art, a host of activities centered on the Model Railroad Museum's Haunted Train Town, a creepy nocturnal "Critter Cave" at the Natural History Museum, and a free activities and prize-drawing booths on the Prado. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Balboa Park, San Diego.



Monster Bash

Oct. 26. This frightful party will take over eight city blocks and fill them with live music at three sinful mega-clubs, local bars and thousands of partygoers dressed in their best costumes. In true Monster Bash fashion, the best Halloween party in San Diego will end with a parade of the bizarre, peculiar, scantily clad, comedic and creative as the world famous costume contest offers up a grand prize of $5,000. 6 p.m.-midnight. Entrance at Market and 6th Avenue, downtown.



National Comedy Theatre Halloween Spooktacular

OCT 25-26. Get scared silly this Halloween with what National Comedy Theatre calls its "dumbest show of the year." The annual Spooktacular features scenes and games that have never done before on the NTC stage, creepy themes and death defying sketches--including one where a performer's head will be submerged in a bucket of water for the entire scene. Tower After Hours: Germany

OCT. 24. Clink your beer steins and cheers to Oktoberfest at the San Diego Museum of Man's Tower After Hours honoring Germany. Immerse yourself in German culture under the museum's grand dome with traditional German food and beer tastings, as well as live performances. Old Town's Fall Festival

OCT. 26. Celebrate fall with festive crafts and children's activities reminiscent of what life would have been like in the 1870s. The Last Goodbye

THROUGH NOV. 3. This musical adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet features the songs of the late singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, blending Shakespeare's classic tragedy--in its original text and period--with a modern rock soundtrack. Two-time Tony Award-nominated director Alex Timbers, "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographer Sonya Tayeh and a cast of leading Broadway talent to bring Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet to new musical life. California Ballet's Dracula

OCT. 26-27. Back by popular demand just in time for Halloween, Dracula is a unique combination of seductive drama and dance that will mesmerize audience members all the way through to its shattering conclusion. Castles and wolves, bats and vampires will come alive as the struggle between the forces of good and evil is revealed in this production featuring guest artists Jonathan Sharp as Dracula and Mila Dragicevic as Lucy Van Helsing.
