Fantasy Spin: Tuesday, January 21, 2014

It was quite a feast of basketball on Martin Luther King Day. Beginning with the Clippers' methodical win over the Pistons and ending with the Pacers solid performance against the Warriors, there was no lack of entertaining hoops . The Houston Rockets showed what they were capable of in beating the Blazers without one of their stars ( TERRENCE JONES/HOU). The most exciting game of the day was the Lakers-Bulls battle. Featuring contrasting styles, the game see-sawed from beginning to end, with a last half-second bucket by the Bulls in overtime winning it. It's a quieter night in the NBA tonight, but no less interesting as fans will be treated to an Aldridge-Durant showdown. Here is today's Fantasy Spin.

FANTASY BOOM AND BUST

Top Performers:

LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE/POR. Did all he could but the Blazers' defense let them down. 11 OF 26 FGA, 5 OF 6 FTA, 20 REBOUNDS, 3 ASSISTS, 2 STEALS, 1 BLOCK, 0 TO, 27 POINTS

AL JEFFERSON/CHA. Made mince meat out of the Raptors defense in the first half.

CHANDLER PARSONS/HOU. We've been waiting for weeks for Parsons to have a monster game and I had all but given up on him.

PAU GASOL/LAL. It was fun to watch the epic Gasol-Noah battle.

ANDERSON VAREJAO/CLE. The big men dominate this list - who says centers don't matter in the modern NBA.

DEANDRE JORDAN/LAC, ANTHONY DAVIS/NOP, JOAKIM NOAH/CHI.

Sleepers:

GREIVIS VASQUEZ/TOR. It turns out he can a lot more than shoot three pointers. Vasquez is gaining minutes and playing in crunch time. 6 OF 13 FGA, 7 REBOUNDS, 9 ASSISTS, 1 STEAL, 2 TO, 15 POINTS.

BRADLEY BEAL/WAS. When he is on, few young guards are more potent offensively.

RODNEY STUCKEY/DET. Perhaps the only credible outside threat the Pistons have.

JANNERO PARGO/CHA. He showed up from nowhere to help the Bobcats hold off the Raptors.

CHUCK HAYES/TOR. The best defensive center the Raptors have - he did a decent job on Jefferson after JONAS VALANCIUNAS/TOR was sliced up.

RAY ALLEN/MIA. The shooting touch has returned.

Disappointments:

BRANDON JENNINGS/DET. Both he and JOSH SMITH/DET are tremendously inconsistent. 0 OF 7 FGA, 6 ASSISTS, 1 TO, 0 POINTS, 28+ MINUTES.

WES JOHNSON/LAL. With NICK YOUNG/LAL and RYAN KELLY/LAL stepping up, Johnson has faded.

JEFF TEAGUE/ATL. It's tme for SHELVIN MACK/ATL to take as starting point guard.

DION WAITERS/CLE, MIKE CONLEY/MEM.
