Kaiju-tastic news week!

Wow, it's been a wild week for the kaiju fandom! This week's news will primarily focus on giant monster-related topics with a smidge of hero stuff toward the end.

First is the Forester ad that provides a glimpse at the live-action titans from Toho's upcoming Attack on Titan movie.

Next is Bob Eggleton's cover for the anthology novel Kaiju Rising. [via ]

A trailer for the US/Hong Kong film Red Jade has been online since the summer, yet somehow I just found out about it (oops), so I'll post it now. [via ]

Moving on to Godzilla-related subjects is the news that Legendary's upcoming Godzilla will have a prequel comic tie-in, similar to Pacific Rim's, titled Godzilla: Awakening.

In other news, Kraken Releasing, a new subset of Section 23 Films "specializing in Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror" will be putting out American blu-rays for Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, and Godzilla vs. Gigan on May 6. These three films already have gorgeous DVD transfers through Sony (though their Godzilla vs. Gigan release is missing the comic-book-style word bubbles when the monsters talk), so it's not clear how worthwhile these discs will be. However, it is exciting that Section 23 is getting back into the game of licensing higher-profile live-action titles; I've often lamented how poorly Switchblade Pictures' line-up compares to the one that Rubbersuit had back in the ADV days. In toy news:

MonsterArts releases of the Mothra and Battra larvae have been revealed, .

Next is news regarding the Wolf Man vs. Godzilla fan film. Mark Jaramillo, who's largely responsible for rekindling interest in the long-obscure project, posted a few images of prototypes for toys of the movie onpage. They were mentioned as limited edition, which could mean that acquisition by the casual fan might not be feasible, but keep an eye on it as it develops; these look great!

Speaking of limited-run toys, it also appears that a 14 cm figure of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's Ultraman manga Ultraman will be available at the next WonderFest.

Shifting gears from kaiju stuff, here are two superhero-themed trailers. The first is for the Avengers Confidential: Black Widow and Punisher, which like the other Marvel Anime, is animated by Madhouse.

And next is a trailer for Heisei Rider vs. Showa Rider: Kamen Rider Wars Featuring Super Sentai (ugh, that title), with some familiar faces for long-time Rider fans:

Kyoryuger had an announcement of a video special, set 100 years after the series, titled Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger Returns: 100 Years After. The same cast would be featured as descendants of the current series' characters. [via ]

And finally, we have a poster for Yuichi Fukuda's upcoming Sentai parody Joshizu. [via ]

That's what I'm aware of for now, but as always, feel free to mention any cool stories/trailers/announcements regarding Japanses-styled SF/fantasy/horror that slipped through the cracks in the comments section!
