Don't miss the return of the godfather of zombie horror George Romero in his all new series EMPIRE OF THE DEAD: ACT ONE #1 with art by Alex Maleev. Years have gone by since the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse, and despite Manhattan being quarantined, the people inside are far from safe. And if you thought just dealing with zombies was bad enough, wait until another ancient horror makes an appearance to stir up trouble for the unfortunate survivors.
It's all about event story lines for DC this week. In BATMAN #27 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, Batman and Gordon want to turn the lights back on in Gotham. Fans of the hit video game series Scribblenaut should check out SCRIBBLENAUTS UNMASKED: CRISIS OF IMAGINATION #1 by Josh Elder and Adam Archer. This new all-ages comic features Maxwell, Lilly, and tons of your favorite DC heroes and villains.
Vertigo fans will be happy to hear Tom Taylor returns in UNWRITTEN VOL. 2: APOCALYPSE #1 by Mike Carey and Peter Gross. Returning fans will be happy to see the continuation of Tom's story, but new readers will also be able to pick up this issue without needing to read the previous series (but you really should because it is good). Tom is stranded at the beginning of creation, lost amongst the untold scenes of the world's stories, and many gods, monsters, and all other sorts of fiction's most fearsome creations stand in his way on the path back to reality.
The Image book to keep an eye out for this Wednesday is DEADLY CLASS #1 by Rick Remender and Wesley Craig. Marcus Lopez lost everything he loved in life in the blink of an eye when his parents died. Now, he lives on the streets, eking out meager existence reliving the past events that led him to where he's at. But everything changes when a mysterious group sets out to remove him from his lowly life to become the next great assassin. Yup, you read that right. If you enjoyed Five Weapons or Remender's work on previous titles, don't pass on this book.
